GPS Wrist Bands Required for Tourists

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I have read from several sources late last year that GPS "smart bands" on the wrist (for the government to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature) would now be required for tourists to wear in Thailand. I heard they were going to do a trial run on selected tourists before they make it required for all. Does anyone know if they ACTUALLY implemented this with 100% certainty from first or second hand experience (not just based on news articles) or did they cancel their plan?

What better way to track "dirty Falangs"  ????

Why oh why do you even bother to ask the question ?  Those in charge have no idea what day it is tomorrow let alone some harebrained scheme from gawd knows where. Please stop with the humour, I'm not used to it on here ????

Here is a news item from last year. The tracking wristbands were not implemented.

Instead the government designed the ThailandPlus locator app and made it mandatory for non-Thai citizens entering Thailand with a Certificate of Entry to install on their phones.

For an old person like me such digital wristband to monitor constantly blood pressure and pulse would be useful : which brand is recommended?

Yes, the decision was made to commit 4.2 billion baht to have the internet network servers set up and software developed that could monitor tens of thousands of tourists along with the training of several hundred skilled IT technicians to monitor this system. Individuals should understand this is why the decision was made to allocate financial resources to this task, rather than spend it on placing orders a year ago for vaccines at the time that did not exist and with no guarantee of working.

None of these devices can measure blood pressure. To measure blood pressure a cuff is required to stop the blood flow. It is possible for a smart watch to track your blood pressure using a bluetooth connection to get readings from a blood pressure monitor.

There's an algorithm...  It's not as accurate as a cuff, but that's not stopping them from selling 'em or stopping people from buying 'em.

This would require an internet connected phone. Is an internet connected phone a new, legal requirement?

Supposedly the best of the bunch for blood pressure monitoring is the OMRON HeartGuide Smart Watch . A friend that works on this kind of tech at Apple tested it and said that it is very inaccurate. Apple has been looking at licensing such tech from Ireland, Japan, and Korea for the Apple Watch but they won't release a product unless the accuracy improves.

The idea faded away in the big pile of proposals.

The Thailand Plus app is or was not a replacement for the wristband but is introduced for the Covid period arrivals and even this is not really used.

People can use the Morchana or Thaichana app which is used by most people to register their whereabouts and is less heavy for your phone.
