Influential star Araya “Chompoo” A. Hargate was going viral again Tuesday, this time for sharing her experience of receiving the government-approved Sinovac vaccine.

Prompted by fans, Araya’s review came amid countrywide doubts and conspiracies regarding the vaccine against the Covid-19 virus produced by Beijing-based biopharmaceutical Sinovac, and as the country is facing its third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Many Thais have sworn off the Sinovac jab and vowed to wait for the arrival of other vaccines, such as Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, or Johnson & Johnson. However, experts, doctors, and health professionals have encouraged citizens to get whatever inoculation is available and confirmed their safety, stressing that getting immunized is the only means for the country to get out of this pandemic.

She got one thing right ( mostly): any vaccine is better than non.

Unfortunately the any in the moment mostly mean a mediocre Chinese one.

I am with the camp suspecting this "star" had made a deal, and do what influencers do: sell herself for someone who pays for her to post.

Rarely if ever will get a honest review from a paid influencer.

Well, objectively, it is better than nothing.

Imagine if it was the only Covid-19 vaccine in the world. But it isn't.

The dilemma many people are going to face, Thais and expats, is whether to accept the Sinovac earlier to get protection earlier or wait and hope that there will be access to another brand option later.

I guess each person that feels they really have a choice in this is going to have to make that decision for themselves.

In other word, effectiveness matters, but so does access and timing.

How much did you get paid, love?

Of course we all have a lot of confidence in the AZ vaccine, because ( all bow????) 'our illustrious leader' has had a jab. Na...?????

As JonnyF mentions, they gotta be desparate to get celebs involved.

Btw, looks as if the injectee is using a 5ml syringe...????

Having celebrities help promote people getting vaccines is quite normal in the face of massive vaccine hesitancy.

From a societal POV it's very desirable for as many people in Thailand to be vaccinated with any Covid-19 vaccine that is available ASAP, but from an individual POV it's also normal for people to decide that they have a brand preference (for good reasons or not).

It's arguably too much of an ask given global supply and demand to expect Thailand or really any government to necessarily be offering brand choices. Something for people to hope for but not very reasonable to always expect.

It's bad enough having to take a rushed through vaccine at all, but being coerced to take the least effective one from the country that created this whole mess is a little rich.

The government is starting to panic that the serfs won't roll over and take whatever they are told to take. Because if they don't, things could unravel quite quickly. Millions of doses of Sinovac on the shelf and Thailand left behind as the world recovers. Not a good look. Hence rolling out the cute girl with the needle in her arm. I'm surprised they didnt have a row of suits pointing at her in the background.

It's interesting a lot of the public appear to distrust the Chinese vaccine, although there seems to have been little criticism of China as the cause of the problem originally.

Millions of people have taken the Sinovac vaccine with only a few problems reported as far as I know. Why are people so against it?

Does anyone have reputable links that indicate that Sinovac is dangerous?

According to Bloomberg financial news, :

It might not , I stress "Might" be the best vaccine, but why let the perfect be the enemy of the good. ?

We all complain about the restrictions, the inconveniences, the face masks, quarantines, closings of favorite places. People are economically hurting. businesses are closing, and we have a chance to get out of all of these, Travel again,.

Why not take the sinovak now , and later on when others become available, if need be, take a different t one? Does taking the sinovac preclude you from taking the Pfizer later on

She is a real celebrity. Top 5 in Thailand, there wouldn't be a Thai speaker on the planet who doesn't know her.

If you live in Thailand you see her everyday on TV, on billboards etc

She is very wealthy from years of acting and modelling. A L'Oreal model etc.

She made sensible comments, not need to attack her.

I have been in love with Chompoo for many years now.

Leave her alone.

My only concern with it is why it was not usable for the over 60's but now is, what changed there? The PM would not have it and waited for AZ, but he expects the rest of us to do differently.

May as  well  give it  M.Mouse then, pretty sure it  would be 100%  effective and he'd  never get covid.

The rock legend has claimed a “disastrous” reaction to the jab left him afraid he “would never play again” — a circumstance he blamed on “propaganda [that] said the vaccine was safe for everyone.”
