State of Emergency to be extended for two more months to control COVID-19

It may take two more months to bring the current COVID-19 wave under control, according to Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and Public Health Ministry.

A CCSA meeting today (Friday) resolved to propose, to the cabinet, another extension of the State of Emergency, until the end of July, citing the Public Health Ministry’s estimation that another two months will be needed to bring the pandemic under control.

The nationwide State of Emergency, in place since March 2020, was due to expire at the end of May. The government can only invoke an Emergency Decree for up to 3 months at a time, hence the repeated extensions.

The Emergency Decree is simply the "authority" the regime bestowed upon itself, which allows it to do whatver it wants. A bit like the pardon they granted themselves AFTER the coup, but this absolves them of any judicial oversight - like there would ever be any - for things they do going foward "battle COVID".

What are the powers of the officers?

To arrest any suspected individual/entity that is believed to cause emergency situation;
To summon any suspected individual;
To seize any weapons, goods, chemical substances or any related objects that are believed to cause emergency situation;
To search, disassemble, remove or destroy any buildings, structures or barriers for enforcement purposes;
To censor, suppress or suspense any media that is found to disrupt public order;
To order the cease, order or suppress of any actions that are found to disrupt public order;
To debar any individuals from leaving Thailand;
To evict alien citizen that is believed to cause emergency situation from Thailand;
To place restrictions on sale of arms, weapons, chemical substance or any other materials that may provoke unrests;
To allow military personnel to assist with the enforcement of EPAES.

The Commincable Disease Act of 2015 also gives them the "authority" to do whatever they so choose.

I thought thais already had the authority to do as they please anyway and if I recall, if I dont like it then I can go back to my own country..... wishful thinking right now.

Yes, but the regime uses the "layered" approach, probably to indemnify itself in case some pesky populist (or counter-coup military) government ever gets control and goes looking for scalps.

Insurance, on insuance for malfeasence.

they must keep extending the "state of emergency"
as the jabs only have emrgency use approval

so no state of emergency
equals no jabs administered

question is: after a whole year, at this point, is it really an emergency ?
????‍♂️

Like in Europe.

For instance, France has extended the special laws (basically "state of emergency", but they changed the name)... until september 30.

So Thailand is not special.

They all follow the same idea... "never ending crisis", "emergency" etc.

Still no sign that it's anything other than (the normal) rumours.

Does anyone actually believe this will EVER end? Governments world wide will have noted that a relatively mild virus can create far more fear and compliance than all the secret police, soldiers and state coercion apparatus put together.

Oh it will definitely end being an emergency but it's going to take another year or two - until everyone is vaccinated.

Governments of the world want profits and prosperity, if not for the people then for themselves which by its very nature needs to include the people - or you end up like North Korea - a dump.

If you don't like todays announcement just wait until later today or tomorrow ????

Such a shame!  The cure is worse than the disease.

Quite possible, but that's actually a separate and distinct issue from the state of emergency - bars have gone through repeated periods of opening and closure since the decree was first implemented last year.

Just extend it to the end of the year and have another look in January 2022

Thailand is most certainly different from France which has a democratically elected government not a military junta is drag. There is a never ending supply of justifications sitting in a file on Dear Leader's desk and it will be used well beyond any medically motivated need.

All this pales into insignificance...compared to..Nuno has left Wolves!

They have already extended from May 17th to the end of May

The restrictions on alcohol sales in Restaurants bars closed ect ect

Expect this to carry on in June who knows when it will end

If this Indian variant of the Corivirus continues schools could still be closed after the 14th June

There goes Phuket opening for July, I know this article is talking about BKK but that won’t matter to potential tourists who are reading news about Thailand???? A friend from Singapore thinks Thailand is a mess based on what he’s hearing and reading about Covid there????

There will not be so many of those entering the Sand Box.

Insurance Companies will not issue Travel Insurance to people who are going to Countries that have declared " States of Emergency "
