Thailand's prime minister was delighted to received praise from the chief of the English Premier League for its handling of copyright issues, reported Daily News.

Government spokesman Anucha Buraphachaisri said that Richard Masters had sent a letter saying that Thailand was a fine example to others when it came to piracy after a series of high profile arrests.

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha was reportedly delighted and thanked all agencies for their efforts in making Thailand look good in the eyes of the international community when it comes to piracy and copyright issues.

Drilling down into the details Anucha said that the Department of Special Investigations had worked with the EPL on shutting down two sites that were illegally televising matches in the country.

Expat TV was taken down first then FWIP TV followed suit.

The EPL works worldwide to try and ensure that their brand is not compromised.

In Thailand the only company that has a right to the matches is True Visions.

The EPL finished on Sunday with Manchester City being crowned champions.

Richard Masters you need to get over here and actually see what is going on, fake E.P.L. shirts everywhere.

Nothing to do with protecting the Premier League and it's clubs. As others have mentioned, there are pirated EPL shirts openly available at pretty much every market in Thailand for 100-200 Baht.

Credit where it's due. If True have paid big bucks to get the rights t o the EPL, they should not be cheated out of viewers by illegal broadcasts that do not have the rights.

Already bought a few at the local Talad for 150 baht and then shipped them back to the states for the kids.  Amazing Thailand, hub of false truths.

Thailand's prime minister was even more delighted that Mr. Masters has  agreed to express his gratitude by purchasing 200,000 genuine Thai-manufactured EPL T-shirts for the special discounted price of 3,495 Baht each.

Not worth it, - my Moncaster Sity shirt was quite the wrong shade of blue

Oh dear, Expat TV? And what's the expat population of Thailand? And just how many of them were watching English football? Ridiculous.

Meanwhile, back when I was clubbing, there was a certain Thai gambling site openly shown on the club's TVs, showing streams of the games for you to watch as you placed your bets. I suspect that wasn't too legal, and not much was done about it.

Also, about four years ago, BeIN Sports had the PL license, and with a 555 baht promotion I was able to purchase a streaming package for nearly the entire season. Looks like True (CP) felt that was severely undervalued, swooped in and grabbed the license, for which you now need thousands of baht for a season. The children of said family do need petrol for those Lambos to scream down Sukhumvit.

Don't the same people who own True also own part of the Chinese vaccine?

All originals and for the small extra of 200Baht, you get the original signature thrown in.

Yep, good old CP own True and also own part of Sinovac Life Sciences.

So it's quite easy to see why the government acted so quickly on this. Of course they're spinning it into "Thailand sets a fine example to the world..." instead of "Thailand protects dubious monopolies".

Buy now, just go to Union Mall here in Phahonyothin, 4th floor and you will find many knock-off clothes.....

Thailand in a nutshell.  All is well and accolades all around.

As long as there is internet they have "stopped" nothing.  May have impeded a couple individuals, but you can't stop the signal........

Why does that make me think of Captain Pugwash and Roger the cabin boy?

That's a relief ! I really thought all the football shirts I bought for 200 odd baht were fake !

You should Google him. He was 4th choice for the post. He became heavily involved blocking the attempted purchase of Newcastle United by a Saudi consortium, which Newcastle supporters were overwhelmingly in favour of. You can read all about him. Like all things football, the scum also rises.
