Would YOU want to live to be 150 years old?

I am a young 64 but already perceive the onset of GOM syndrome. ( grumpy old man )

How grumpy would  I get in another 80 plus years ?

And if I needed an intravenous drip of viagra  overnight just to enjoy myself like I used to ..... think I'll pass.

I would be dead chuffed to attain 80. ( more dead than chuffed ) and the way the woke world is going I think  I will be better off to quit while I'm ahead.

I dont want to live in a world of electric cars and digital currencies. I like the smell of petrol and the grubby feel of money. I like the concept of men and women. I dont want to be people.

Just as long as I can outlast my mum and not break her heart by an earlier demise I am pretty happy the way my life panned out.

GOM does not need to happen any more in 2021 - a three monthly hormone injection can most probably fix this entire problem. One feels 35 again and one stays calm in the craziest of traffic conditions. Best thing I've done in the past 10 years!

I predict poverty, barbarism and religious extremism for the vast majority of people in the coming 100 years. I wouldn't mind being around to see it if I were in the extremely wealthy and unaffected minority.

i agree, bring on the Hunger Games

Can breathing pure oxygen under pressure reverse ageing?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy reverses ageing in humans

https://www.theceomagazine.com/business/news/ageing-reversed-hyperbaric-oxygen/

If going thru minimal medical intervention as these therapies are I would  go for it, Since the added age  would still alow good health, strength, and sexual ability I would want the extra years.

According to projections by an international team of scientists published last year in The Lancet, 183 countries and territories (out of 195) will have fertility rates below replacement level by 2100. The population of China in particular is projected to fall dramatically between now and the end of this century from 1.41 billion today to 730 million.

Experience shows that government policies (many countries actively engaged in them already) to increase fertility rates (to encourage more women to have more children) is near impossible, with incentives providing only minor success. Surveys in many countries show that whereas young people would like to have more children, they are afraid to because of perceived obstacles and fewer opportunities to make ends meet.

If life expectancy were to increase steadily as birth rates continue to decline, we might at least maintain some population equilibrium. Assuming for a moment that people aged 70 to 150 could be kept healthy and mentally and physically active (a huge ask) that might be a world that is sustainable, since these oldies could be productive and contribute something useful to society.

But if 70 to 150 year olds were all retirees it would surely be impossible for the few young active and productive people to provide adequately for their needs and would put unbearable pressures on those young people. Imagine the level of resentment there would be. Today there are already many younger people who blame Boomers for all their ills!

I would like to live to be 150 yo, but only if I could look after myself without financial support from anyone else and only if I could in some way contribute to society during those looong senior years. Otherwise that would be a selfish dream.

Basically, the world has enough problems caused by an aged population. Even now, we are significantly stealing the future of our children and grandchildren through eldercare & healthcare.

Personally, I don’t like the direction humans are heading. Mass surveillance, close control, censorship of free expression. Climate change.

I prefer not to be a burden to myself or to my loved ones.

And who's to say what mobility aids will be invented in the next 100 years?

Interesting post but how many TVF members have another 100 years left in them? I think it would be interesting to see/know what changes the future might bring.

The idea of a mechanical body, well, not my style...

I don't have any religious convictions or strong feelings either way, but maybe we continue onward in some form or another, to a far more enjoyable place... walk towards the light. [and hope its not a train coming ]

Depends ,If I could  still live in a capitalistic society and live a rich and healthy life style that I have been able to procure from exercise, hard work and financial investments ! Most defiantly !

I wonder if a younger lady in her 90's would mind sharing

space with me lol !

I'm so far planning on longevity, however based on a happy healthy life.

Longevity might well be a combination of many things, like inherited genes, individual life-style, which can include both food and level of exercise, and not the least happiness of (still) living...????

Having passed only the 70-corner I'm still counting on further happy 30-years are waiting for me, which is not an unrealistic thought today. If I'm having the right recipe is another thing, but I try to follow the one my dad left me, he managed it quite well – active in relaxing sport, tennis, till he was 104 – I presume that might even be able to extend the life-span with another decade, if I'm still feeling as happy as now...????

Well you could get a thai girlfriend of 100years old and then you wouldnt be out of place.

I might not understand fully, what you mean,

-when one is 150 years old having a 100 year old Thai girlfriend...????

or

-when one is 100 years old and still being handsum enough to have young chicks flocking around one...????

Current live span is around 80. If you can increase the productive period between, say, 30 and ten years before death, from 40 years (dying at 80) to 110 years (dying at 150), you almost triple the productive span, allowing workers and experts to accumulate far more knowledge and expertise.

Permit me to doubt you are Australian, age discrimination in employment is rampant there.

IMO you are speaking for an elite group of people who have the capacity to keep learning and expand their skill set. I would suggest the average person would only be interested in putting his/her feet up.

Governments everywhere are pushing to extend the retirement age, but they are doing nothing to encourage the private and public sectors to employ older people.

Not speaking of health, in let's say 100 years, life on Earth will be horrible ( Global warming , overpopulation ... ); let's hope that problems of pollution will be solved

when I see how are many people over 100 years old, I would not like to live so old
