Fastest "visa Run" From Chiang Mai ?

Featured Replies

Travelling from Chiang Mai, by car or plane or combination thereof, what would be the plan for someone wishing to spend as little time away as possible while renewing a non-Immigrant B visa ?

Last trip was to Penang, so perhaps best to use a different embassy (Laos/ Singapore/ KL,Malaysia/ other?) this time.

Please name airlines, and flight schedules too, if possible.

Thank you :o .

Do you have a work permit? How long was your previous non Immigrant B visa, 3 months or 1 year multiple?

Yes.

3 months; the next should be 1 year.

Meadish - am wondering why you asked these 2 questions - does it affect choice of country for visa renewal ?

Any thoughts on the original question, anyone ?

Probably K.L.

Air Asia flies every day from Chiang Mai, but it would mean a four day trip as you arrive too late to go to the embassy and you collect your passport too late to get the flight the same day.

Thanks, lamphun :o .

Still hoping to come up with a configuration that is shorter than that. All suggestions welcome.

If you have a work permit you must have a job and if you have a work permit and a job you don't have to go anywhere except immigration and the labor department.

Unless you make less than 50,000 per month.

I think airasia has several flights per day to KL from BKK. It would involve flying from cnx to bkk first though. You might want to check the times.

Thanks, both of you.

Yes, still have to leave in some cases. Regulations are different for self-employed foreigners.

Perhaps we should run this in the Chiang Mai forum for more input - must be others in the same boat/plane :o.

AirAsia offers direct service daily between Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur.

overnight bus to nongkhai, onward to vientienne to apply for your visa in the morning.

pick it up at 1.00pm the next day, back in ChiangMai early next morning.

Here's a seeming possibility for reducing the time. Does anyone see any problems with this ?

Day 1. Leave CM on Thai Air (maybe other airlines) in afternoon, arrive KL in the evening.

Day 2. Morning visit to Embassy.

Day 3. Early afternoon visit to Embassy. Late afternoon return by Thai Air (no other airlines available).

One advantage of Thai Air is tickets can be changed if needed.

Thai Embassy in KL *MAY* give your visa approval in the morning of Day 2 if you cite special circumstances such as tight schedule for flight.

* Singapore can be done with approximately the same time frame.

* Penang & Vientiane require an extra day as the only return flights are on morning of Day 3.

Garp, thanks - that's certainly quicker, if a bit tiring.

Can you tell us the name of a reliable company in CM ?
