BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) expects food exports to grow this year, due to the country’s strict safety standards and full cooperation from food producers.

DITP Director-General Somdet Susomboon said the department has also launched the “Thailand Delivers with Safety” campaign, to boost confidence among importers, along with other supervisory measures. The overall value of Thai food exports in January and February was 164.15 million baht.

He said the top five export agricultural products were:

Cassava

Rice

Fresh, chilled, frozen and dried fruit

Processed chicken

Fresh, cold and frozen chicken

The top five export agro-industrial products were:

Canned and processed seafood

Wheat and other processed food

Pet food

Beverages

Canned and processed fruit

The market for Thai food products is expected to grow 7.1%, earning 1.05 billion baht, mainly driven by surging demand in the global market following the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in many countries.

Mr. Somdet added that related businesses and suppliers must adhere to safety practices, including contamination risk reduction, strict safety controls in manufacturing and control of personal hygiene and the work environment.
