Channel News Asia reports.

Vietnam detects hybrid of COVID-19 variants from India and UK

"Vietnam had previously reported seven virus variants: B1222, B1619, D614G, B117 (the variant from the UK), B1351, A231 and B16172 (the variant from India).."

"Laboratory cultures of the new variant, which is much more transmissable than the previously known types, revealed that the virus replicated itself very quickly, explaining why so many new cases appeared in different locations in a short period, Nguyen Thanh Long was quoted as saying."

How can a cross of two separate variants come into existence if viruses don’t breed with each other to reproduce?

Well dont you know??

Everything is possible with Covid, as long as the fear is kept going.

I find it strange how every country that previously had very low Covid figures ends up making headlines sooner or later.

Its as if someone is pulling the strings and letting it be known:

"Everyone has to have a turn"

And if fear should be at risk of diminishing in any certain country,

a mystery outbreak will be sure to appear,

usually on around religious celebrations or holidays.

funny that.

It's called recombination. If a person is simultaneously infected with 2 strains, parts from different strains can mix inside infected cells.  It's less common than point  'accident' mutations but can happen. A paper from 5 days ago: (not about VIetnam)

SARS-CoV-2: Possible recombination and emergence of potentially more virulent strains

"Overall, we propose that genomic recombination between different strains may contribute to SARS-CoV-2 virulence and COVID-19 severity and may present additional challenges for current treatment regimens and countermeasures. Furthermore, our study provides a possible explanation for the substantial second wave of COVID-19 presented with higher infection and death rates in many countries. "

It is suspect how when large groups of people get together there seems to be a lot more contagion than when people are isolated. Don't people know that diseases are inflicted by evil spirits who will track you down no matter how well you think you are hidden?

And Covid doesnt like sport either.

Pack 75k into a stadium and not one case,

but here in Australia it usually turns up in a store or Thai restaurant, so it obviously likes Thai food
