Durian cultivation can be a lucrative crop with earnings of up to $10,000 per hectare

Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said this weekend that Cambodia currently has 5,289 hectares of durian plantations, of which 3,403 hectares are yielding about 36,656 tons per year.

 

He said that currently, the cultivation of durian by some people is in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, especially small and medium-sized farmers, because they have the ability and budget for investment as a real business. In particular, some farmers are small farmers or growers of durian as a family or just for leisure, they grow according to their perception or without paying attention to the proper technique.

I  understandbit takes 4-5 years to get fruit.  I'm sure in 2025 there will be a glut if durian.

Durian only grows well in certain areas with abundant rainfall and rich soil. It doesn't do well in areas with a long dry season. If planted in an area that's not suitable, durian requires a lot of work to keep the tree alive, and yields are low.
