Mate - IMO they will never have a clue. How can Somchai and Pornchai in a local Provincial TRD Office (where PTI tax returns are done) be expected to understand the DTAs of 61 different countries. And given how Immigration Officers all 'interpret' things differently and are sometimes 'biased' - I doubt they will always give a fair and balanced and correct decision, when they assess your tax return - so IMO dont do it unless absolutely mandatory (you earn 'real' income). Maybe TRD is going to 'centralise' PTI tax returns from Expats due to the complexities of of the different DTAs - that might work out. But leaving it in the hands of under-educated under-trained TRD locals is not something that an Expat should try to deal with. More likely they are going to demand that any Expat using a DTA for exemptions and reductions, must use a registered tax agent - which I am told will cost a lot when it comes to DTA issues. One company quoted me 20K+ for a basic return that included DTA work - and it could cost a lot more if a local TRD Officer questions anything and wants more details. -

Best Song of Past 100 Years? Your Vote?
Leonard Cohen wasn't the best singer, but his gravelly voice seemed appropriate for the profound but often harsh lyrics of his songs. Cohen was also a poet and novelist and the importance of his lyrics over melodic clang is evident. He's widely ackowledged by critics and other musicians as one of the best lyricists of the past 100 years. His popular hit 'Closing Time" from 1992 is very reflective of the Pattaya experience. What really grinds your gears in Pattaya
Grinds my gears, too. And, I've asked myself the same question. Why such an interest in Pattaya? Do they also read and post on the Peoria Forum? Heck, we even have posters who have never even been to Pattaya coming on and posting. Don't they have anything better to do with their time? Apparently, not. I finally decided the answer is, they just can't quit Pattaya. Wherever they ended up, likely some cold, dreary, boring, spot that leaves them with plenty of free time on their hands, huddled by a space heater, they hanker to be in Pattaya. Don't they ever. And, don't they just so envy those of us who are here--usually in the form of extreme sour grapes, brought to us time and again with disparaging, usually clueless, often woefully outdated, and sometimes just plain mean Pattaya posts. The closest they can get to Pattaya seems to be the Pattaya Forum. That is, until I took pity on them and created the Just Can't Quit Pattaya Fan Club. Now these poor, unfortunate folk have a club all their own, where they can meet on-line--or perhaps in person if they are both living in the same godforsaken place--and commiserate with each other about not being where they really want to be--Pattaya. No charge, of course. My only remuneration is the satisfaction knowing I've brought some small comfort to these folk living their lives of quiet desperation--somewhere, alas, not Pattaya. But I digress. One grind remains Pattaya allowing a relative handful of cars to continue to park on some of the major, very busy roads, instead of creating more traffic lanes from the parking spaces that would, instead, benefit thousands of travelers on these roads. -

"If those street vendors work as self employed and take the standard deduction of 60% of sales as costs, that 300k per year maximum income can easily be doubled, assuming they can sell the volume (and many do). 50k a month for net income is at least three times the average national wage. Tax deductions for the self employed are effectively a government subsidy (and it used to be a 80% deduction!) except few realise that". -
