June 8, 20215 yr By Subhabhong Rarueysong BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Medical Sciences (DMS) reports that the government is keeping a close watch on new variants of the COVID-19 virus, in particular the strains which were first detected in India and South Africa. DMS Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak said the department is racing to complete the genetic sequencing of new cases, to monitor the progression of the nation’s outbreak. He said the B.1.1.7 variant, or the Alpha strain, which was first detected in the United Kingdom, is responsible for the bulk of the infections in Thailand. About 90% of cases in the current wave were caused by the Alpha variant, based on the department’s genetic sequencing of 3,964 cases. Another variant, Delta, which was first found in India, has recently emerged and infected over 230 people. According to Dr. Supakit, genome sequencing and genomic surveillance play an important role in preventing the coronavirus from spreading, but not every country has the capacity to carry out the tests involved. As Alpha is the dominant variant in Thailand, the department is working to contain it. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-06-08 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
June 8, 20215 yr Popular Post The government and news services will keep the public whipped up in a fear frenzy for as long as possible. As stated in the MIT Review in March 2020, there will never be any going back to "normal" again. New Normal is this quasi-dystopia of unending fear, unending business closures, unending restrictions on personal freedoms, and unending vaccinations. And in my humble opinion? It will get much worse before it ever gains even a semblance of normalcy. And normalcy will be made to be uncomfortable. How sad. Oh well. I had a good life. Pity the kids and grand-kids though.
June 8, 20215 yr @connda agree with some of what you say above ???? One factor nobody seems brave enough to talk about is that there could very well be more of these viruses leaking (deliberately or not) from certain countries (or one in particular) with increasing frequency. China has at least tens of thousands of dangerous pathogens... And a military that is actively experimenting with them. This is not disputed.
June 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Indian/delta variant 70% more transmissible and 250% more likely to lead to serious illness and hospitalisation than current Kent/alpha one now dominant in Thailand. Single dose of AZ only 32% effective after 3 weeks. Sinovac? Who knows What do you think is going to happen to those 2500 daily case rates?
