Varicocele Dr. recommendation

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently got diagnosed with a mild varicocele on both sides after I start to having daily pain in this area. This was done via ultrasound. I initially talked to Dr. Jakkrit Issayanuwat at Bumrungrad which suggested me to monitor the pain and I got a subscription for pain killers.

This was 3 weeks ago and I'm basically in pain every day. He also gave me the option for an operation. However when I asked how often he did this kind of operation it was just a view per Year. He also mentioned a rate of 5% for potential damage on nerves and a 15% chance that the pain would be still there after the operation.

Any doctor recommendation with more experience with this kind of operations?

@Sheryl can you help out?

Nerve damage is nto a common complication of variocele surgery, are you sure this is what you were told?  There is a small risk of damage to the testicular artery, and a risk of hydrocele formation. Both risks vary greatly with the type of surgical apporach used.

After risk of pain not being relieved is only 8%.

See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5503918/

It is a rather technical article but worth reading before you see Dr.. Charuspong so that you can discuss with him the various possible surgical approaches.

Thank you for pointing out my mistake, the 5% was a summary of potential complication which could be nerve or artery damage as well as your mentioned hydrocele.

I will study the resource you send and will have a visit to Dr. Charuspong.

Thanks!

Quick update, I can recommend Dr. Charuspong. He is easy to talk to and is able to do the microsurgical varicocele repair.

However in my case it seems to be some nerve problem which causes the pain, so I got send to a Neurologist.
