Hi,

I'm trying to get a return flight from BKK to LHR for my Thai girlfriend in July. she'd like to fly with Thai but the problem is its £750 when booked from there web-site, plus I can't book it with my credit card as the cardholder needs to go on the flight as well. She doesn't have enough cash in her bank to book it herself.

The cheapest direct flight I've found so far is with BA, 200 quid cheaper than Thai, does anyone know if BA have staff that speak Thai on these flights ?

Any other suggestions ?

Cheers

Dont know about BA but have you checked out EVA Air. Direct from BKK -LHR, last time I flew about half of the attendants were Thai sporting neat little Thai flag badges on their lapels.

The price, I would think, would be better than BA and it's a comfortable flight in new B777 aircraft.

You will probably have the same problem with credit card with most airlines.

Have you tried Thai airways office in London to get around the payment problem?

You could try Ebookers . type BKK for departure in "Non UK Airports" window.

The prices are high because July and early August is peak time (UK school holidays)

When I lived in the US, I was used to the fact that the cheapest fare would be that found on the airline website. My experience with Thai is the opposite---you get the cheapest fare by going to their office. This does not make sense to me, but I have found it more than once. I don't know if this is helpful, but you might try contacting a Thai office, if there is one convenient, to see what fare they offer.

You need to book your flights with an airline consolidator for Thai airways in Thailand,

just wire the money over to her.

Without wanting to sound rude why does she need to have Thai speaking cabin crew ? I take it your English/British so surely you must converse in English at times even if her knowledge is limited.

Anyway I can 2nd that EVA does have about 50% Thai staff on its flight to London and it's a better service than Thai these days.

Thanks for all the advice guys, although her English isn't bad, this is her first time flying to the UK and she's just a bit apprehensive about it, I am sure she'll be fine but she feels happier if there's Thai cabin crew.

I contacted Thai in the UK and they said if I went to their office in London, the price would be around £1000. On the web-site its THB51,000 compared to BA's 39,000. Eva Air was more expensive than BA and I can't pay with my Visa with Eva either.

Have been working on persuading her that BA will be fine, she seems to be coming round to the idea as I told her I'd put the money saved towards her birthday present :o

Thanks again

When you book if you tell the airline she is a first time flyer they will chaperone her in bangkok and on her arrival in UK and through immigration although the UK guide may not be a Thai speaker.

Have a look at Massic Travel on the web, they are based in Pattaya but are normally very competative on price using any promotions by the airlines. They will also take your credit card with no problem. It would be best to speak to them by phone as thier web site is not interactive,I have used them twice with no problem.

You really are better off getting a fare from within Thailand, the fare with Thai or Eva or whoever may be available at a discounted rate from within Thailand. So it would be an idea to get your GF to visit a few travel agents in Thailand before you go booking anything.

I flew with Eva and booked my ticket months ago - since then my credit card expired and since I didn't need it I never bothered applying for a new one. When we went to the airport they kicked up a big fuss and weren't going to let me fly (inspite of the fact that they had already been paid and the money was out of my account) in the end I had to get let them copy my other card and sign a waiver allowing them to access this account.

I flew round trip BKK-LHR for 34000 baht.

I used Emirates airline and the air hostesses on board spoke 7 different languages including Thai.
