Got quite some of these maggets in my compost heap. Thai call them 'boong', but what are these and moreover what do they become later on?

It is a beetle larva - probably some form of scarab - we call them Christmas beetles in Australia

Some of us quite like the name of this beast: cockchafer. Can cause immense damage to the roots of crops and lawns but despite seeing one occasionally in the garden we haven't had any problems thus far.
