snoop1130
BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) – The cabinet approved the procurement of 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer in October or the fourth quarter, said government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri. The Cabinet also approved the procurement of additional 10.9 million doses of Sinovac vaccine with the budget of 6.1 billion baht. In its meeting today, the cabinet also endorsed a 2.52-billion-baht project to help employers and workers covered by Section 33 of the Social Security Act, who were affected by the maximum and strict COVID-19 control measures that the government imposed. Popular Post wensiensheng
The sinovac will probably arrive. I’m still skeptical that any MRNA vaccine will arrive, ever. The Moderna promised multiple times with ever decreasing amounts, indeed, this Pfizer order announced several weeks ago but never actually ordered, now supposedly to be ordered, but hasn’t yet. like everything else I guess, believe it when it actually happens.

Popular Post Clydesdale
At last. 20m is a decent number, but needed to come sooner, much sooner. Now they have to ensure that it is competently distributed (when it finally arrives).

Perhaps because they haven’t even ordered it yet and believe it or not, there is quite a lot of demand right now. Popular Post herfiehandbag
It really is remarkably simple. They can announce decisions to order until the cows come home, but, having opted out of the international vaccine distribution system, because they scented the chance to make a shedload of money, and then having discovered that the premix concrete business was not a good precursor for biopharmacy, they can only get the stuff on the international market if :1) it is available, and 2) they have the cash to accompany the order. They don't have the cash- blown it on submarines, obsolescent AFVs and flash but ultimately unnecessary high speed rail projects (all they seem to have for that one is a cardboard mock up on Hua Lamphong Station concourse) - and the much vaunted foreign currency reserves seem to be not available. Therein lies the problem - after all would you supply anything to this bunch of shysters "cash on delivery"? Popular Post kynikoi
Another order. Who woulda thought. Anyone keeping track? Must be up to 500M by now. Thanks Uncle More Sinovac unsurprisingly. Can't expect autocrats to spend real money on plebs. Good enough for Chinese farmers, good enough for Thai farmers. Popular Post ourmanflint
With the Delta variant ripping through Thailand now, this will do zilch to prevent deaths from current delta wave. I suppose it could help those that didn't get infected this time around in preparation for another variant wave later in the year. 3 months is an age, even 3 weeks would be too long to wait the way things are going now
Popular Post Soikhaonoiken
They keep telling us how many vaccine they have ordered, but they never seem to arrive, only hand outs from different Countries arrive, would be better to report daily how many jabs they have administered. 4

Popular Post mtls2005
Approved a proposal...and the ever-descriptive "given the green light"... and 10.9 MM more of Sinovac. Unless this also whitens skin it will sit on the shelf. The cabinet has approved a proposal to procure 20 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine. It has also given the green light for another proposal to import the Moderna vaccine as an alternative choice, as well as a plan to import 10.9 million more doses of the Sinovac jab. 1

Of course it hasn't been actually ordered. Don't we wish things moved quickly. Even the Moderna order from months ago I don't think has been actually ordered--the Attorney General just finished reviewing the contract the other day. But, we'll likely be reading stories about this Pfizer order for months--like we did with Moderna. Laughable that they have no idea when it will arrive but think October or the end of the year. Likely neither.
DLock
Every day is a new announcement on "Cabinet approves" procuring vaccines from various sources. Indonesia will be getting all the spare vaccine donations now, so best you get a hurry on and stop "approving" and actually "getting". Charter some them Thai planes they aren't using and go get the stuff...

From my experience, when things move quickly it's for something I don't want. Only Chinese vaccines quickly ordered. Condo swimming pools quickly closed. Intervac site quickly shut down. Hospital vaccine signups quickly filled. Monthly AZ vaccine production quickly exhausted. Quick crackdown on protestors...
MrJ2U
This would be news when the procur 90 million doses. Never enough to make a difference. As long as there is unvaccinated people theres a place for the virus to mutate. After the report of the leaked document about the low effectiveness of Sinovac the idiots go and buy 10.1 million more doses. Its like those people who keep buying the overpriced 98,000 baht lightposts. The corruption never stops.
jaiyen
Australia will not get any Pfizer vaccine until at least October, so Thailand has got no chance of seeing any before that if they order it now.

sanuk711
I keep thinking how bad the situation is in Thailand---and it is. But Its also so annoying that -what I use to class as my country -- Oz with only a small Population, is over 2 million doses behind Thailand. John Drake
If private hospitals in Thailand can secure a pathway for Moderna to get into Thailand, why can't the Thai government do likewise and also order Moderna?
