Bus services on all southern routes in Thailand suspended until July 25th

Thailand’s state-run Transport Company has suspended operations on all southern bus routes, from 11pm tonight (Saturday) until July 25th, in line with the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) decision yesterday to restrict interprovincial travel, in a new bid to stem the rapid spread of COVID-19.

 

Managing director of the company, Mr. Sanyalak Panwattanalikhit, said today that operations of the northern, eastern and northeastern bus routes will, however, continue, but the operations will be scaled down to just 13 routes a day.

 

The routes that are still serviced are:

 

-Bangkok-Klong Larn, Bangkok-Lom Sak and Bangkok-Uttradit for the northern bus service.  Only one return trip a day on each route.

I guess because it's necessary for some people to travel.  Presumably routes from Bangkok to Pattaya, Hua Hin and Rayong are operating too. For "necessary" travel!

Wouldn't argue with that....but it does beg the question ....why is all travel to the south (or back) now considered unnecessary?

In other words since the 'lockdown' it's travel interprovincial as you wish in the main.

Well, Airasia already canceled domestic flights for July. Maybe the other airlines still fly though.

I presume the Southern railway route to Hat Yai Junction and Su-nga Kolok is still running and, no doubt, there will be private "taxi" and minibus operators touting for passengers!! One organizations loss is another's gain.

There are a wide variety of private operators on most of these routes - half a dozen that I can think of that run Chiang Rai - Bangkok. If they have not/are not stopped then it seems a bit pointless.
