Up to 20% of all Sandbox arrivals at Laguna Phuket have been from the UK. Pictured: Banyan Tree Phuket’s DoublePool Villas

As the two-week mark looms since the opening of one of the world’s most aspirational travel destinations, the bold Phuket Sandbox scheme is set to be assessed and analysed by some of its key architects and stakeholders.

Key findings so far are that the UK market is leading a return of European travellers with 12% of the 4,568 international arrivals to date (July 11) coming from the UK – a fact industry observers claim is testament to the long-standing relationship between the UK and Phuket, direct point-to-point access from London Heathrow to Phuket International and pent up demand.

The figure has been further boosted by the UK government’s decision to not enforce quarantine restrictions on travellers returning from countries on its so-called “Amber List”, which includes Thailand. This policy is reported to have led to a 23% surge in overseas holiday bookings by Brits.

What nonsense! 548 arrivals from UK so far signals a tourism revival!!!!! How many of those are returning to their loved ones in Thailand.  It would be interesting to know how many of those UK "tourists" actually leave Thailand.

exactly

plus I am not sure how long Thailand will stay amber - based on assessment metrics the UK and Europe apply tells me it can't remain amber

the article is just more verbal runny brown liquid

“Amber List”

This is the only thing that matters, if that changes then they stop coming overnight.

Irrelevant what Europe thinks, only assessment that matters is the UK and past assessments would certainly indicate a move to the red list.

One can only hope that the airlines pick up on the rhetoric and lobby the government over the amber list.
