Daily News reported that the improvements to replace sand on Jomtien beach in Pattaya were continuing.

They had pictures of heavy machinery on the sands.

Though menacing storm clouds above offered some foreboding that flooding might wash away the sands as has been seen after similar improvements were made on the main beach in Pattaya.

The first phase of the Jomtien improvements to repair erosion are now 4.39% complete.

The Harbor Department are spending 586 million baht on this section that runs from two hotels  Jomtien Chalet to U Jomtien Pattaya - a distance of 3,575 meters.

The 900 day contract was signed by Italian Thai Development to run from May of last year to November of 2022.

Ultimately the aim is to repair 6.2 kilometers of beach.

Sand is being obtained from Koh Rang Kwian island 15 kilometers away from Jomtien.

Have they actually heard of climate change & rising seas?

(Sigh!) Guess not.

Just under a thousand years ago, an English king worked out that you cannot hold back the waves.

Yet here we are............

Nice budget to play with though.

I hope they understand that they also have to budget with lifting the city in about 10 years. Compared to that, this is a drop in the ocean.

Is the estimate with corruption charges included? Or are they extra? I saw a report from the world Bank in about 2010, that said they estimated about 30-50% of all government spending went in graft. Of course, there might be no corruption at all now.....:)

Meanwhile also at Jomtien Beach (Dongtan): 'They' continue to fell trees, the centre being between Rabbi Resort and the 2nd toilet building. But trees outside these limits are not safe, either. Wouldn't it be an idea to report on this, too?

A few weeks ago I was there when a large tree blew down, the next day they had trimmed the remaining trees a bit too much, and now several of them are dead too.

Who owns ital-thai..

586 million baht, where do they get the money from?   And how can they make sure the restoration will last ?

4.39% wow almost finished,

Thailand reports to keep an eye out for 586million baht apparently washed out to sea

They don't use 'bean counters' just two ladies with tweezers counting grains of sand to ensure absolute accuracy in progress reporting.

Do they count each grain of sand?

586 Million Baht will certainly be being washed, but not in any Ocean.

Waste of time and money but not for the muni boys who will use this project and milk it for all it worth, as soon as the first major storm comes what was spent will end up in the ocean.  You can't laid larger pipes to contain rain water then have them lead all the way to the ocean. All those Sukumvit center island storm drain lead down to just the beach!

The gift that keeps on giving..... endless source of you-know-what!

How do your apparently 'funny' (judged by the claqueurs) statements coincide with reality, see the photos taken late this afternoon?

Asking the workers, the motive for the 'works' remains not understandable - or does someone know what 'because linding' means?  Otherwise, they refer to a big boss.

On the last photo, the organisation of the workers can be seen. Why doesn't this blog call them and ask for an explanation? I may be old-fashioned, but isn't that what journalism is all about? And I sent you this suggestion twice already, via Twitter.

Turned out pretty nice in Pattaya though.

We all know it will eventually just be given back to the ocean.

Quite right , I wrote about this long time ago !  Without Groynes the cross current will wash away the sand in a matter of time and back to square one !!   It's not rocket science !!

My thought also. Given the money and sand going onto Pattaya, they should just wait for a really good downpour and an outgoing tide and the Pattaya beach will give Jomtien all the sand they need for free.

You can't beat nature. It will put it all back where it should be in due course anyway.

Pointless on so many levels. There won't be enough tourists to warrant the expense. Not foreign tourists anyway.

“It’s all been a big misunderstanding”

At 586 mil thb?

I would love to see a cost breakdown for that total...but wouldn't be surprised to learn the planning committees "cost" 500 million of it...
