How Can I Sell Our Car?

Recommended Posts

Aside from advertising it on here, Expat motors and outside Villa, I don't think we are going to be able to offload it before we move. I don't understand the car salesrooms on the side of the road and whether I could take it in there and sell it to a dealer or they sell it for you and take a percentage. I have tried two, but due to language difficulties I am still not sure. So, over to you good and well informed people.

Thanks in advance

You can sell to a used dealer at the side of the road, but of course they'll offer you a silly price and then mark it up.

There are used car magazines you could use, but would need a Thai mate to sort out for you.

There are some websites like Baht and Sold you could use to, mostly free.

Don't forget the paperwork, if you want it done quickly.

If the car is in your name, they will need

1. Copy of your passport

2. Copy of your Visa (usually Non-Imm, I believe)

3. Letter of Residence from Immigration (For you the seller). (The one you need to open a bank account). (a Farang Buyer needs one as well)

4. You can include the insurance if you want, as your car is usually ANY DRIVER, but if they have an accident before the renewal date, and it is reissued in their name, YOUR NCD is the one hit!

4a. The Govenment Complusary insurance goes with the car even if you keep the No 3 Comprehensive, assuming you have that.

I sold my Mitsu by putting a notice in all the truck all windows and so it was seen around and when in Shop carparks, but Actually sold it to a guy walking past to see a friend in my urban "Village".

It was point 3 above that wasted my time, as the Land Transporrt Off outside Pattaya wanted the letter even thought Immigration thought it was not needed.

Notices in Shops, Newspapers and the like are OK if you are staying, but most have a waiting before being dispalyed, even the ones you PAY for. Luckily I sold my truck before any were put up!

This hase been MY experience :o, but beware of VARIABLE RULES AGAIN!

I got a good price from a tent dealer - it was a bit of a fluke though. He specialised in pickups and when we offered our Vios he gave us a great price.

He even admitted the next day that it was more than he should have offered, but since he had given his word already he would stick to the agreed price.
