chesterubi1
Hi, my daughter has a multiple entry visit visa for the UK that expires on 05/12/21, December this year. If we fly back to the UK in Nov, would she have to leave on the 5th Dec or would it be valid for a six month period, from when she entered. I would be grateful if there was any written down clarification of this, as dont really want to just have hearsay and then get to the airport and be refused. Thanks Chester
Upnotover
She must leave on or before the expiry date. I don't think I've ever seen it clearly stated on GOV.UK but maybe somebody else can find it.
theoldgit
Upnotover is correct, your daughter must leave the UK on or before the expiry date printed on her visa. She may have a problem flying to the UK if her return ticket is after he visa expires, if she reached the UK Border, she could also have a problem if the Border Force Officer picked it up, which they should. Whilst overstaying for less than 30 days wouldn't incur a ban on re-entering, it could well be an issue in a future application, the circumstances you describe probably wouldn't be regarded as a valid reason for overstaying. Tony M
She can apply for an extension of stay (while in the UK), as long as she does that before her visa validity ends. It will cost just under 1,000 GBP for the application. This is the guidance : If a visitor holds a long-term multiple-entry visa and they want to stay for longer than the visa expiry date, it is possible for them to apply to extend their permission for up to the maximum 6 months permitted for visitors (standard). For example, a visitor arrives in January and their long-term visit visa is due to expire in February. Provided the visitor meets the Rules, they can extend for up to 6 months, until June, as a visitor (standard). A single entry or 6-month visa can also be extended to complete 6 months’ in the UK as a visitor. Applications must be made before the original permission expires. Just under £1,000 to extend a visit visa. We have it cheap in Thailand!
chesterubi1
Thanks everyone, couldn't find it clearly stated on the Gov.uk website. Have to get the wife a new visa anyway, so will get the daughter one as well.
