CCSA to consider allowing eateries in malls and department stores to provide take-away and delivery services

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will be asked to ease restrictions on eateries in shopping malls and department stores, by allowing them to provide take-away and delivery services.

Deputy government spokesperson Ms. Traisulee Traisoranakul told the media today (Monday) that the CCSA’s operations centre has instructed the Ministry of Public Health to develop a set of guidelines for eateries, located in malls and department stores, in case they are allowed to resume business for take-away and delivery customers, to ease the hardships caused by the CCSA’s lockdown measures in the 13 “Dark Red” provinces, including Bangkok, imposed since July 20th.

The guidelines include:

  • -Eateries may only accept online orders and may not open their store-fronts.

It would make a lot of sense. So will probably be rejected!

Most likely not viable.

Stupid idea.

Remind me never to open a restaurant in Thailand

I wonder which big shot complained to them that he was losing too much money with these closures

Close eateries to help stem the rise in infections, then open them again to ease the hardship?

Hmmmm.

Many restaurants that are in shopping centres with access to the outside are doing takeaways already

& are open to walk in order as long as takeaway ( Saw on my big walk this morning) Phone orders have never been banned either

So, what are they talking about ?

They should never have been closed for delivery in the first place, that is just insane. Probably a side effect nobody had considered.

Example, yesterday at Big C-Extra all the restaurants were closed. They were not offering take away food... and the same in Central, T21 and other malls. Restaurants in malls are inside the malls and don't have access to outside, so what are you talking about?

They are talking about bringing it back to the way it was during the first lockdown last year. The mall restaurants had desks on the ground floor where people could view a menu and make an order, and sit and wait for it in designated seating areas.

The reason for the proposed change is obviously restaurants crying out for the ability to sell food to keep them afloat. When you close a restaurant you have staff out of work too. It's a very tough situation for many.
