It looks like the United States isn't giving any of its American Expats a vaccine but they are giving them all The Bird.

American Expats - Uncle Tweetie says,
"Sinovac For You - At The End Of The Line After All Thais."

Looks like he's flipping off all the US veterans?
As a vet, it looks like it to me.

The embassy seems to be making a point of the fact that there are no strings attached. Note that the Chinese donated vaccine but on the condition that Chinese nationals get a part of the donation. It looks like the US is trying to differentiate itself from the strings attached idea.

Frankly, this was their opportunity to do the exact same thing and at least get American expats vaccinated, but it appears there is a motive to contrast the US strategy with that of the Chinese.

Yeah. It does appear that they are trying to downplay the US role in the region, just like the Chinese bosses want.

Has anybody ever heard talk in Thailand of Sen. Tammy Duckworth being luk kreung (ลูกครึ่ง) and supposedly fluent in Thai? In another age she would have been called out as a Thai hero, sort of like Tiger Woods. Do Thais even know about her?

Is this like the Japanese hunting whales for scientific purposes and then selling them?

According to the allocation in the OP.

  • 5,000 doses are reserved for further research, while another 40,000 doses are reserved as a backup.

What about the temperature requirements? Can the Thais keep things that cold?

What, as cold as the normal temperatures found in any fridge-freezer? I think so.

FDA: Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine Doesn’t Need Ultra-Cold Freezer Storage

Quote

on Feb. 25, the agency issued new guidance that says the vaccine can be safely shipped and stored for up to two weeks ... at normal freezer temperatures (-25°C to -15°C)

There is a near 100% chance the vaccines will be distributed to important Thais. Pooyais

45,000 already pilfered from the 150,000 for "foreigners", as the "Thais traveling abroad category was merged into the foreigner category.

At the current rate foreigners will receive a Pfizer vaccination, both of them, or maybe all three.

From the time it was first announced until today, the US donation of Pfizer has been filled with controversy, arguments, and accusations (I'm not talking about this forum but in the Thai press and social media). Say what you will about the Chinese, but their donation and prioritizing of their citizens mostly went through smoothly.  Personally, I can't get over the contrast: US Pfizer arrives in the middle of the night, on a DHL cargo plane, and the embassy puts out pictures of cargo handlers, fork lift drivers and cartoon characters. When the Sinovac arrived, it was during the bright of day and the cabinet and Chinese were their on the tarmac applauding, while the Sinovac came in on Thai and China Air. From the standpoint of PR, the US would have been better off just to not send anything.

The Chinese simply outmaneuvered the US at every turn. For that matter, so did the French. Virtually everything the US has touched dealing with this issue in Thailand has become the subject of angry disagreement and disappointment. Meanwhile, everyone else sails right on through.
