BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) reports that the Public Health Ministry will administer COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to about 3 million people.

 

DDC Director-General Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong said the Public Health Ministry’s subcommittee on COVID-19 vaccination agreed that the booster shots will be given from late September through October. The vaccine type to be used depends on availability at that time.

 

Earlier, Public Health Commission vice chairman Dr. Chalermchai Boonyaleephan advised that elderly people should have a booster shot, as their immunity declines rapidly in the six months following the second dose.

 

He said immunity levels and prophylactic efficacy decreased sequentially with Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine, especially when the delta variant is spreading around the world and affecting the efficacy of all vaccines. As per a Pfizer report, immunity levels in the elderly, who have received two shots, were lower than in younger healthcare professionals. Therefore, the provision of booster shots now requires serious attention.

Booster jabs will be for those that unfortunately got "the poor Chinese vaccines" so they get improved immunity - especially important for front line workers and vulnerable people in hard infected zones - did you sign up for your jabs?????

Before you get to that stage why not vaccinate the 30 odd million Thais (and farangs) who have not yet received their FIRST vaccination?

Yes!

 

I read in another article that this a catch up for those who received two Sinovac, so not really a booster jab in the true sense.

Why are booster shots necessary so soon? If one compares to the UK, which vaccinated say April for the second jab (using Pfizer or AZ)..... 3rd /booster jabs have yet to be scheduled albeit will be necessary. 

Dare anybody admit the error and waste?

Three million Thais who got Sinovac set to get booster shots in September/October

The director general of the Department of Disease Control Dr Opas Kankawinpong told Bangkok Business News that three million Thais would get a third booster shot of Covid-19 vaccine in September and October.

 

This is understood to be those people who have received two shots of the Chinese made Sinovac vaccine. 

 

There have been concerns about this vaccine's efficacy especially after hundreds of medical personnel contracted Covid after two jabs of Sinovac, notes ASEAN NOW.

 

What they will receive as a booster shot remains to be seen and will depend on vaccine availability at the time.

 

It is expected that it will either be Astra Zeneca or Pfizer.

 

BBN suggested it will be administered in risky areas of the country. 

 

Meanwhile Dr Opas said that Thailand will have procured 124 million doses of various vaccine by the end of the year.

 

The report contained the latest vax numbers indicating that 30.6 million people in Thailand had received a vaccination; 22.8 million a first dose, 7.2 million two doses and 584,326 three doses.

Good! What's not to like?

 

They have a low learning curve here, but they are at least on one.

"7.2 million two doses" so of those 3m are not really vaccinated otherwise there would not be such a Dr Noddy panic.

So that means 4.2m fully vaccinated with other than CCP water

That is under 6% fully vaccinated with a real vaccine

A learning curve like not wasting vaccines on the sandbox whilst the old and sick remain unvaccinated and are dying?

Expensive learning curve.

Two of my friends are in ICU with Covid, just more than a month after both having their 2 doses of Sinovac. If they survive, I think they would agree that this is a very good way to start to correct the terrible mistake of using Sinovac in the first place.

The Western countries are also beginning booster jabs now, as the vaccines used so far only seems to last between six months and one year. Israel was one of the first countries to roll out mass vaccination - and they used Pfizer - the immunity is running out now, so they begin with boosters.

 

The Chinese vaccine is based on dead virus from the original Wuhan-virus. Unfortunately the mutated variants, especially Delta, seems to be (much) less protected by dead-virus vaccine, actually only around 13-14 percent according to Thai news. Luckily one booster jab with vector-based AZ, or an mRNA-vaccine, can change that...????

Yes, it's a booster. The early developed Chinese vaccine is based on dead virus from the original Wuhan virus, which the vaccines were fairly effective against. Unfortunately those early vaccines based on dead Wuhan-virus only provides 13-14 percent protection against the later Delta-variant, but one booster with vector based-vaccine like AZ, or mRNA-based vaccines like Pfizer, can improve that...????

It is more costly, less effective, and people don't want it.

Sinovac was the only fast available vaccine by that time, and many times better than no vaccine, which was the alternative. The initial problem was rather relating on locally manufactured AZ as the only vaccine in a roll out, but everything are always so clear in the unbearable crystal bright light of hindsight...

Cases of hospitalisation and deaths after fully vaccinated with Pfizer reported in New Zealand and Singapore. What's your point.

How about the 30 plus million Thais who have had NO vaccinations yet?

 

I have no objections to the front line medical staff in all positions getting a booster jab, but the rest of them should have to wait until the rest of the people get 1 jab.

Point is I know of 2 people in ICU that had Sinovac. None with Pfizer, although I know many many more people that had Pfizer. Statistics.

They are terming them "breakthrough cases" now.

But there worried about how it will look relying on a foreign vaccine.

13-14 percent after the first inoculation.

Have I said anywhere 'what's not to like?' about the 30m without? I wasn't referring to them.

It would be far better to give another 3 million there 1st shot...
