A video produced by the tech wizards at the Royal Thai Police has been made to promote a pilot program to increase safety under the leadership of RTP chief Pol General Suwat Chaengyodsuk.

The general who took over last September promising a new and improved force is fronting a master plan called "Smart Safety Zone 4.0".

There are 15 police jurisdictions all over Thailand where the pilot project will be trialled, reported Daily News.

The video starts with Suwat speaking - he is looking dapper and and had ditched his trademark spectacles for a dashing new look.

But he has a stark initial observation:

"Is there any soi in Thailand where women can walk from "paak soi" (the end of the soi) to their homes at 9-10pm or later and not feel scared?" he asks.

We are not told the answer to this question instead we are introduced to a super hero amid much dramatic sound and music.

It's a first for the RTP - a virtual online event no less.

Featuring the latest technology and smart tech.

We are introduced to a startled criminal whose face is recognised.

Then there are flashing lights of a police vehicle in Hat Yai.

Then an S.O.S. button affixed to a lamppost that is connected to the command center.

Smart phones are accessing QR codes.

Yes, the technology is here to help each and every one of us to be safe. Some police even appear to be by the sea - could this be Pattaya?

It will all create confidence in the force, the video concludes, creating a fuzzy feeling of warmth between the Thai public and their officers on the beat.

According to Daily News several of the places where Smart Safety Zones 4.0 will be implemented in the trial are in Bangkok and surrounding areas at Lumpini, Huay Kwang, Phasi Charoen, Pak Kret and Muang Samut Prakan.

Others will be at Pak Chong, Muang Ratchaburi, Muang Pattaya, Muang Phuket, Hat Hai, Muang Prajinburi, Muang Chiang Mai, Muang Udon Thani, Muang Phitsanuloke and Muang Rayong jurisdictions.

As part of their article Daily News went with a picture of several traffic officers from Pak Kret saluting accompanied by the new smart safety logo.

Why not use one that would be a hero for all of us.

At 1:51, Jomtien beach, quite certain. Ko Larn in the background.

At what time does the Curfew start, please?

should perhaps be consulted for 90days reporting online ongoing fiasco, 6 years and still running, off and on.

So is this a "create a fear and then persuade people to give away their freedoms in order to assuage that fear" type situation?

See Thai soaps.

Smart cars, smart phones, smart tech...next will be smart people

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING will create confidence in a Mickey Mouse force that is 100% corrupt!  Maybe they should use AI to stamp out corruption!

Another attempt at trying to polish a ... you know what.

With institutional corruption ingrained in the Police.

Many are overweight and really should be traffic police. When they automated the traffic lights in 2003 (around then anyway) in Bangkok, a large majority of police would have not been needed. The uproar from the police.

Stop taking money (Bribes/Protection from businesses.). Don't expect to be paid by a complainant to do your job. Have an appraisal system that weeds out the ineffective officers. Put in place an independent complaints commission that has power and you may just have a police force worthy. Plus pay them appropriately, so they don't buy their own equipment and uniforms.

I know... I am a farang and just don't understand Thailand. The truth is I do. I just disagree with it on how the police operate.

Depends, are the bib there and do they have any plastic bags?

Spy cameras on every lamppost  total surveillance of public areas, apps to allow entry to restaurants, mall and sporting events for the "privileged"  ever expanding  police and government powers   looking more and more Orwellian at every step ????

With a pocket full of plastic bags and lambo in the garage no doubt.

Don't worry. The cameras will stop working just a short time after installation. 1984 never to come in Thailand due to the competence of the government.

The safest thing anyone can do is steer well clear of the RTP.

Pak Soi suppose to mean the mouth of the soi where it connect to the main road and not the end of the soi. ( just want to brag how smart i'm)...

No, because they might meet someone from the notorious RTP.

Maybe they are on to something here. Replacing every BIB with a smart 4.0 robot programmed without the "bribery and corruption" chip could eradicate corruption.

I wonder if he's coping with the latest outbreaks of image damage.

Wouldn't work, too many false alarms from crashing cars.

Is the curfew still a thing? I must say it is still quiet where I live after 9pm.....indeed, if you like sleeping at night it's lovely.
