Hi, this might be quite specific info but, what is possible in terms of an Intern who normally arrives with an ED visa, doing an internship longer then 4 months (6 months) in terms of extending beyond the inital 3 month visa?  Is it possible and how? TIA

If you initially get an ED visa, it means you are doing the internship through a school or university. So you are considered as studying at this school/university as long as your internship goes, you just apply for an extension for studying, same as any other student.

But to apply for the extension requires a person to be on a internship from a Thai university.

Sorry need to add more info (can you edit posts??).  I'm the company thats looking at having the internship for a student from Colombia.  Normally we provide 3 month internships.  They are awarding an internship visa (3 month NON ED) by virtue of them supplying a letter from their university and us supplying a letter of invitation and our DBD.  This is all normal so far.  But we want to start extending it out beyond 3 months.  Since its an international internship, it's not exactly convenient for the student to go back to Columbia for an extension.  Thats where we are stuck up.  Ringing immigration is no good, they don't pick up the phone... ????

Extensions are done in Thailand, going back to Columbia would mean they would get a new visa.

Sorry to say, but I dont think anyone can answer your question here. The best thing to do is go speak to the immigration office that you will deal with. Each office will have their own ideas on how rules are applied. You might end up needing an agent.

See document 12 in this topic:

These are all the possible extensions. I don't see any extension for which the intern could possibly qualify under the circumstances which you stated.

Currently it would be possible to apply for 60 day Covid extensions, but nobody knows how long this will be possible, so not really a reliable plan for in a few months.
