Chonburi – Eleven people have sustained injuries and twelve vehicles were damaged after a female driver crashed her pickup truck into a railway barrier gate in the Mueang Chonburi district last night (September 9th).

The Don Hualor Police were notified of the accident at 10:30 P.M. on the Suk Prayoon – Samnak Bok Road in Don Hualor.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find eleven people who had sustained mostly minor injuries (6 men, 5 women). They were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and medical assistance.

A total of twelve vehicles that had been waiting in front of the railway track which was a collection of motorbikes, food carts, and cars, also suffered damage.

Brake failure!

That's one way to enforce curfew... if you're not home by 9, we'll send some heavy footed pickup driver out to mow you down...

Many of these 'accidents' defy all logic; many drivers seem to be blind as well as stupid !

Brain failure more like ...............LOL - Probably too busy on the phone

It was unclear why so many vehicles and people were still out during the curfew period or if they had permits to do so.

All were found to be in possession of Form BHT500 for examination at check points.

She approached the barrier at high speed and.... Ohhhhh sh*t!

Possibly a blind corner 100 meters down from the crossing. There is one near us. If going around the corner at normal speed it would be very easy to collide if there is a long queue at the barriers.

No, rule 1, drive according to the situation, a corner means slow down and prepare to stop if necessary, not go flat out and hope.

Stopping distance in a normal car is 96meters at 70mph, that's 112 kph. Hitting a blind corner at speeds like that is asking for trouble. I have to admit though, some of bends on some of the roads in Thailand are damn sharp, and having railway crossings within 200 meters of a bend of this sort is not sensible.

Facebooking ?

And on facebook

Another unskilled and incompetent person driving an agricultural vehicle as a sports car.

It was unclear why so many vehicles and people were still out during the curfew period'.  It's as clear as daylight - Pattaya has the least effective police force in a land of ineffective police forces coupled with a population who learn to break safety laws from an early age.

How could she miss a barrier with flashing lights everywhere ?

Oh....she didn't. My mistake.

Cannot remember which model Hilux had the recall for faulty brakes... but it does happen.

Ok, she ploughs into multiple vehicles at the railway barrier so I assume there is wreckage all over the show. There was obviously a train approaching, so I wanna know what happened next.

Did the train get stopped? Did anybody go running up the track waving a lantern to warn the approaching train? Was there a train anyway or was it two maintenance dudes on a bogey powered by a 2 1/2 HP Briggs & Stratton? Did the train (or the two dudes) go sailing through the carnage with a <deleted> look on their faces? There are a multitude of possible scenarios that could have eventuated but we are left wondering.

I feel the story lacks the element of "closure" that is a pre-requisite in any written piece involving a mystery - just ask Agatha Christie.

Are there no road warning sign before the bend of a crossing ? Going round a bend at normal speed jeez that is not normal driving  !
