Thai Health Ministry Insists Country’s Reopening Plan Is Not Premature

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Public Health Ministry insists that the plan to reopen 5 provinces, including Bangkok, has been properly assessed and is not premature, in response to academics’ concerns over the government’s plan to reopen the country to vaccinated foreign tourists starting next month.

Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the Public Health Ministry is conducting daily Emergency Operation Centre meetings to assess the situation, under the guidance of the Department of Disease Control and the Department of Medical Affairs.

He said that, from the perspective of medics, it may not be an appropriate time to open the country, due to the high infection rate but, from the business side, it is essential to resume in order to move the economy forward. The ministry is taking opinions from both sides into consideration

The minister also urged people not to panic about the high number of COVID-19 infections, saying most new cases are asymptomatic and the numbers are falling. Thailand’s daily new cases have dipped below 15,000 this month.

Now I am confused: bear with me....I am not a native English speaker.

Aren't there some kind of discrepancies between the above announcement  and this one ?

Should I be worried about my comprehension skills or my English level ?

Personally I am not worried but what is true today may not be true tomorrow as this "15,000" might go up as it seems to have been the trend in the last three days: steep slope from 20+K to under 13K and now up to 14,555

what if it goes above ?

No worries.  They can just reduce the amount of testing in order to reduce the number of found cases.

Difficult choice; lots of people dying or few profits for big companies.  He's made his pile with the Chinese vaccine so my guess is he will play safe and further reduce the economy of the ordinary worker.

Interesting definition of “reopening” when two weeks hotel quarantine, covid tests and numerous other onerous requirements will still be needed.

They're too stupid or greedy to change this anytime soon.

The Guy is a complete clown... and just a puppet... how can the Thai people have confidence in this Government....

Didn't the Governor of Bangkok tell them all to stick their opening(s) where the sun don't shine yesterday?

Like Phuket and Sumui, any decision will be made at the last moment before opening.

I was planning to come back to Pattaya in October for a year, but not like wthis with every day flip flopping.

Do they think we can apply for a visa and go through all the extra COE hoops with a couple of days notice ????

Only yesterday when the Health Ministry,s Boss was asked about opening ha evaded all questions on the subject & said was not up to him. Today, he is shouting  his big mouth off about the

subject which is all just more verbal diarrhea

The government keep on changing plans..... wait until 1st October for a clearer policy.

The Thai people don’t have any confidence in the Thai government.

Luckily for Anutin, the Thai “government” is really just an Army with lots of tanks and guns. The “PM” is really just the head of the Army, so Anutin can continue with his nonsense as long as he likes.

If the “government” get voted out they can just have another coup. They’re overdue one anyway and the Thai people won’t do anything to stop it. They never do.

Democracy. Thai sty.

Such requirements will change next week, and then back again, and then.....
