I went to Savannaket in March to renew my 90 day Non O, I thought I'd go with Jack Golf this time went in today the guy told me you can only go to Loas one time per year for a Non O, but I can get a tourist visa, I thought the point of all this was for people to aquire the correct visa they need but if I want to go to loas I'm being forced into getting a tourist visa, Anybody got any information at all regarding renewing a Non O in Savannakhet

Sorry lop, but I have posted this a couple of times.

The Consulate in Savvankhet tell you quite clearly that they will only issue one 90 'o' Visa in a year, and/or two 60 day Tourist Visas.

I know, I've been there three times.

When did you post that? There has been a complete change in visa issue procedures from Vientiane in the last six months and nobody is being told that now from reports here. Last year people were getting stamps not to come back - but I have not heard of that stamp being used recently.

I was there in March the only thing they told me was that next time I would have to have an original translation of our UK marriage certificate and not a photocopy, and they added a note at the top of the visa saying so.

No mention at all of only one time and no signs either. If this is the case then does anyone know the nearest place to apply without showing finances as I cannot show any regular documented proof of income.

Sorry lop, but I'll be blowed if I can find the post now, maybe mentioned in a different part of the forum, so now I will definitely mention it in the right part now.

I was granted a 90 day 'o' from Savannakhet last April, I was waiting for the sale of my property in the UK to go through and I was hoping it would give me enough time, it didn't. So, I went back in July for another one, this was refused. They said that I could only have one per year, they could let me have a 60 day Tourist this time and then another one later, but they would only grant two of those annually.

Then the announcements happened about what was going to occur on Oct 1st ....... my life got really messy then.

Sorry Kev, I was typing when you posted that.

Yes, they didn't say anything to me for the first one........ only when I tried to get another one did it become an issue.

You are talking about April 2006 I believe - things have turned 180 degrees and Vientiane has become one of the best places for visa issue in the area this year. What happened last year is not what is happening this year.

Maybe I'll get a reply on Monday to my e mail that should clear up any doubts................shouldn't it?

Yes it was 2006, but my last visit to Savannakhet was around three months ago (2007) nothing had changed then.

Edit.

Who mentioned Vientiane, I didn't.... even the topic title says Laos (granted it is misspelt)

Always wondered why people were so enthusiastic about Vienntiane and Savannakhet issuing Tourist Visas.

Vientiane and Savannakhet (who strictly follows the rules of Vientiane) both issue 2 (two) Tourist Visas per year only. I was told that in Vientiane in August 2006 and again in Savannakhet on October 9, 2006 when in both cases I tried to obtain a Non-O-Visa with multiples of money requested in a Swiss bank (supported by a Swiss bank Statement, translated into Thai, legalized by Swiss Embassy and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vientiane (after a 30 day arrival stamp) and Savannakhet (after a Tourist Visa) both refused to issue me (unmarried, 64 old, enough funds) a Non-O-Visa whatosoever on grounds that the money had to be in a Thai bank and told me to go and get such a visa elsewhere. However, I do know that Savannakhet issues single (90 days) Non-O-Visa to guys married to a Thai.

This all does not make sense to me, but I got used to this crap. Everybody can be lucky to have some sort of visa in his passport these days.
