Turkish Delight

Featured Replies

Ah! my favourite confection; not the chocolate coated variety mind but the sugar-coated gelatine stuff...but where can I buy in Bangkok please? :o

Howdy,

I like a Turkish Delight from time to time. I lived in Germany for a couple of years and would buy them from a turkish deli. They always kind of looked at me funny but were always thankful for the business :D Boy howdy are they good!

Last time I was in Bangkok I seen some places down in Sukumvit Soi 3 area that might have a delight or two :o talking about the dessert :D. However, I have not seen a deli down there.

Here is a easy way to make them.

2 c Sugar

2 tb Cornstarch

1 c Water

1/2 ts Cream of tartar

1 tb Flavoring *

Food coloring **

1/2 c Toasted nuts, chopped ***

Confectioners' sugar

* Flavorings: rose, mastic, strawberry, orange or

lemon. ** Food coloring: red, yellow, green or orange

(depending on flavoring used) *** Nuts: almonds or

pistachios. Jasmin flavoring might be good or coconut.

Dissolve sugar and cornstarch in water. Add cream of

tartar. Boil to 220 degrees F. Cover pot the last 5

minutes. Add flavor and food color. Add nuts.

Pour into oiled shallow pan. When cool, cut into

squares and roll each piece in sifted powdered sugar.

Store in plastic bag.

If you can not find corn starch maybe arrowroot or tapioca starch would work.
