The head of Hua Hin's reopening - called Hua Hin Recharge - said he was confident that Covid clusters in the holiday city were under control.

The resort is set to reopen to foreign tourists next month.

Krod Rojanastien met with other leaders from the public and private sector at City Hall on Tuesday.

He declared the resort safe and ready for tourism recovery.

Just under 80% of the population in the 86 square kilometers of Hua Hin had been double vaccinated. 98% had received one dose.

80 hotels are SHA+ registered.

The resort was just waiting for final government and CCSA instructions as were potential foreign tourists, he said.

The mood of optimism was yet to be reflected at the Chatchai market that has reopened, however.

Most people were staying away despite the fact it was open for business after 500 tests were carried out and there were more than 100 infections.

have to laugh at the optimism - Phuket has been so called open for weeks and is reduced to a trickle of  tourists - what makes Hua Hin think it is going to be any different - I think they are going to be seriously disappointed
