Thai tourist visa (SETV) additional documents

Recommended Posts

I'm a UK passport holder from the UK, currently on holiday in Nepal.  I am planning to travel to Thailand on the 6th Dec so just started the e-visa application.  After submitting most of the info I got to the last section and some of the questions are not clear.

5 . Proof of accommodation in Thailand, e.g. Accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand

6 . Financial evidence, e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, sponsorship letter

7 . Confirmation of legal residence in a country in which you are applying for the visa. (In case that you are not a national of the country in which you are applying for the visa.)

8 . Identity of the person inviting you to stay e.g. Thai ID card, Passport

9 . Applicant is required to upload his/her passport pages which contain all travel records for the past 12 months (1 year) since the last international trip.

10 . Applicant must apply for e-Visa via specific Embassy/Consulate conforming with his/her consular jurisdiction and residency. Applicant is required to upload document that can verify his/her current residency.

I have a condo in Chiang Mai so I don't have a hotel booking.

What sort of bank statements and for how long?

As I am in Nepal, is a photo of my current visa enough?

I could ask a friend to invite me.

I have one trip to Cyprus in my passport.

I don't know how to prove I am a resident of the UK.

Any suggestions?

hi joe,

OP being from an eligible evisa country (UK) can't the SETV be applied online without the need to attend the thai embassy where one happens to be?

this SETV online evisa is more onerous then the attend in person mode.

i'm a perth oz resident which is not an eligible online evisa country so i have to post application/passport/etc to canberra or sydney  but am waiting for oz online evisa eligibility status.

have heard more countries to be added in november

No

You have to apply at the designated embassy for where you are located.

From the first page:

Submit to

warning-iconIf applicant applies for a visa at the Embassy/Consulate in the country where the applicant does not have permanent residency, the visa approval process may take at least 1 month.
(Permanent Residency is the resident status in a country of which you are granted a residence visa to stay for more than six months.)

It seemed like it was a choice and as I didn't want to wait one month I chose my home embassy in London.  I will call the embassy here tomorrow and ask if that is deinfitely the case and also ask how many days it should take.

looks like i have misconstrued the use of the Thailand MFA online evisa website if it is inapplicable when one is not physically in country of residence. ie OP cannot apply for said online evisa when he is not in UK (what about Thailand Pass?).................not the first time i have misconstrued thai immigration.

maybe visa exempt + extension better option for me.

The e visa website did not change the requirement that you have to apply at embassy where you are located that has been required for a very long time.

The Thailand Pass is not applied for to a specific embassy.

Entering visa exempt might be the best option.

I am not even sure you could apply for the visa in Nepal since many embassies require you to be a citizen or legal resident.

The SETV only application required documents is a mess.

Duplicated with point 10. if you're applying from your own country, you can't leave point 7. blank and you have to upload a document, in my case i've uploaded the same for 7. and 10.

Same, can't leave the field empty and you have to upload something, in my case it's a new passport and i haven't travelled in over a year, what was i supposed to upload !?

So i uploaded my full passport, yay.

For me they asked the last month bank statement showing a balance of at least 2000 EUR.

Thanks for all the replies.

I went up to the Thailand embassy in Kathmandu this afternoon and asked and was told I can apply as a UK passport holder but they don't use the e-visa system so I have to email all my documents and then I will get an appointment at the embassy by which point they said it should only take a day or two.  NPR 5,000 /USD 42/THB 1380/GBP 30.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I have been told by the Kathmandu embassy to email them 6 months of bank statements showing 20,000 Baht.  I have just downloaded them but should I blank out part of the account number.

The first lot of documents I sent in a zip file with a separate password which caused a bit of confusion at first.

I also booked my ASQ hotel on Agoda and emailed the confirmation but they want an offiical ASQ form which I have now emailed the hotel for.

Seems a bit too much paperwork to go on holiday, if it were me and it was just a regular holiday in a place where I didn't own a condo then I wouldn't bother with this whole process.

Proving you have 20,000 Baht for 6 months, what's all that about - it's nuts!

I finally have my appointment for my visa tomorrow at the embassy here in Kathmandu.  I had to get the SHA+/ASQ hotel to provide a formal invitation not the Agoda booking.  No onward flight as people have said.  Got my Managers cheque from the bank today.

I found some reasonable Thai covid insurance and so went ahead with the travel pass registration now I knew I could stay 60 days.

Entered all my details and uploaded the required travel pass website and received my QR code in one minute.  I had been calling the embassy daily about the visa trying to hurry them up because I thought the Thailand pass might take a week as had been the case for some people earlier.  I guess they must have sorted out all the issues now and the process is completely automated.

All my documents were accepted yesterday including 3 copies of the visa application form.  Got called this morning and told to come in the afternoon to get my passport with visa. So happy to have made it through this tortuous process and looking forward to being back In Chiang Mai very soon.

A little bit of helpful advice on the website might have saved me a few days but it took 2 weeks from the first email submission of documents to collecting the passport with visa inside.
