Manchester City wants to see "colour of Thaksin's money" : UK media

MANCHESTER: -- England's Manchester City Football Club plans to go ahead and appoint a new manager as ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra continue to drag his foot on filing a bid to take over the club.

London-based Sunday Mirror online reported the club's chairman John Wardle wanted to "colour of Thaksin's money within a fortnight or he may be forced to scrap his plans to sell."

Wardle may make Graeme Souness manager amid fears that Thaksin's 90 million pounds takeover bid has hit the wall.

The Mirror reported that the former Thai Prime Minister's accountants have been looking at City's books for weeks as part of a due diligence process. But no formal bid has been made - nor is one expected this week.

Alarm signals are sounding as the exiled prime minister's attempt begins to look similar to his doomed plans to move into Anfield.

City feared that the new season is kicking off in just over two months and the club has become a rudderless ship.

It has no no manager following the sacking of Stuart Pearce, and while other clubs are doing their summer shopping, City are caught in a void.

The Mirror said Claudio Ranieri, who was ready to become manager if Thaksin was successful, is now certain to take over at Juventus instead.

Wardle is now preparing to remain in control and former Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle boss Souness is on stand-by.

Locked in the vaults in Thailand. He needs permission of Bank of Thailand to move them out, and he needs to show that his investment is beneficial to Thailand, and I supposed tax cases will also play a role.

I wonder if he has any money in his name, he hasn't been personally charged yet, only his nominees have.

All that as well of course!

If I was a betting guy I would wager Thaksin is not Chairman at Man City at the start of the new season or any time in the future - time will tell.

A mere £90 million, he should just grab a couple of suitcases, and jump on the train to Manchester, no ?

But warn him to beware of McDonalds - until he has delivered them !

Just don't hold your breath waiting for something to happen. :o

much vaunted business acumen????????????

lets review this a moment, paws 4 thought

any dman fool can run a successful business if he has secured a monopoly to supply a strategic necessity (early days of mobile phones when they cost in todays money around 40,000 baht each 10 years ago)

any dman fool can amass a fortune if he can set up crooked deals by virtue of parliamentary priviledge and inside trading -

need i say more

A real business man who has to compete in the international arena must have proven success in competition with other worthy players (has that ever happened? with ykw???)

so who wants a 5 year old kid complete with tantrums running a football team in UK, wouldnt last 5 minutes would he

its just another populist gag for the poor deprived folk of the NE who think he is some kind of robin hood (or robin bstard)

""Ousted PM identifies Eriksson as next Man City's manager

Manchester City's search for a manager has been further disrupted by an instruction from Thaksin Shinawatra, the club's prospective owner, to explore the possibility of tempting Sven-Goran Eriksson back into English football, the Guardian online reported on Tuesday.

The deposed Thai prime minister wants a high-profile appointment and has preferred Eriksson despite strong reservations within the club and in his own team of headhunters.

In the kind of confused plot that perhaps only City could be capable of, Eriksson is now among the leading candidates to be offered the job if Thaksin's takeover goes through, notwithstanding the misgivings of everyone in the recruitment process bar Thaksin himself.

City have missed out on his first-choice target, Claudio Ranieri, as well as having unsuccessful talks with Didier Deschamps, and Thaksin seems unimpressed by Sevilla's Juande Ramos.

The Guardian reported that Alistair Mackintosh, the City chief executive, has been pinning his hopes on enticing Ramos away from Spain once Sevilla have played in the Copa del Rey final against Getafe on Saturday.

Before then, however, Thaksin hopes to make a formal offer for the club, and if everything goes to plan he believes he will be in a position to make his own call about the next manager.

The mention of Eriksson's name represents a remarkable turnaround given that Thaksin's London-based advisers initially scoffed at the idea of turning to the former England manager.

Thaksin has all but convinced City he can finance his takeover despite an anti-corruption committee in Thailand freezing about ฃ830m of his fortune. But the club have been without a manager since the final day of last season and pressure is mounting on Mackintosh to make an appointment as soon as possible.

So now The Great One wants the former England manager to be manager of Manchester City F.C.

Here's a guy on the brink of possible arrest & court appearances in Thailand demanding that the new manager of Man.C be a 59 year old Swede. (Feb 5th 1948)

Is he nuts?

Maybe Noppadon should be the manager? :o

Thaksin's Man City deal on track

Thaksin's Manchester City takeover bid has been dogged by uncertainty

Thaksin Shinawatra's bid to buy Manchester City is still on, even though he has been ordered back to Bangkok to face corruption charges.

The former Thailand prime minister and his wife have been charged with concealing assets and have been told to return by 29 June or face arrest.

But BBC Five Live reports that his bid for an Eastlands takeover is on track.

Sevilla's Juande Ramos and ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson are still in the frame for the City managerial role.

The club have already demanded an explanation from Thaksin following reports his bank accounts have been frozen.

He left Thailand last year after being ousted from office in a military coup and lives in London.

Now he is facing further uncertainty because of the latest developments.

The director-general of Thailand's Department of Special Investigations, Sunai Manomaiudom, said police had strong evidence that Thaksin and his wife secretly held stock through nominee companies in SC Assets Corp. PLC, a Shinawatra family holding company.

Serving Thai cabinet ministers are not generally allowed by law to hold shares in publicly listed companies. They are also required to reveal their assets, including stockholdings.

The police are charging Thaksin with violations on both counts when he was prime minister.

But a spokesman for Shiniwatra's financial advisors shrugged off the latest setback, telling the Manchester Evening News: "Everything the unelected, military junta in Thailand has been doing of late is politically motivated.

"It is a serious attempt to stop him buying Manchester City and it will fail."

Shinawatra submitted a bid to buy City in May and was then granted access to the club's accounts.

His advisers have been carrying out due diligence before reporting their findings to him.

Thaksin himself says he's been an ardent Liverpool fan since the days he got out of plastic pants.

Man City heavies are asking for some sort of guarantee from Thaksin? If they've done any research on the man, they know that nearly every wrod he utters is a lie.

British Football clubs must be so desperate for funds, they'd take money from Idi Amin, Bokassa, Pinochet or anyone - no matter how much blood a guy has on his hands.

It is a bit of a dilemma for old Man City. Even if he does stump up the money and take the club over, if he is later found guilty of a single coruption charge as is looking more and more likely every day, he will then be in breach of the premier league rule on owners being of a certain good character.

Thaksin targets Eriksson at City

Sven-Goran Eriksson

Eriksson is available after a year in the wilderness

Sven-Goran Eriksson has been offered the Manchester City manager's job - providing former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra completes his takeover.

Eriksson's agent Athole Still claimed reports that the Swede had held two rounds of talks with Thaksin's representatives were "total rubbish".

But BBC Sport understands an offer has been put to the Swede, dependant on the proposed takeover.

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos has strong support within the current City regime.

BBC Radio Five Live football correspondent Jonathan Legard said: "I am told that Eriksson has now been offered the job by Thaksin. Whether he takes over is another matter. He is thinking it over.

"I have also been told it is not as clear-cut as the proposal involving Claudio Ranieri."

It is understood there are other targets on Thaksin's list, but Eriksson is the preferred option.

Ranieri was lined up to succeed sacked Stuart Pearce at City, but opted to join Juventus.

City are still waiting to hear whether Thaksin's takeover will proceed after some of his assets were frozen and he was ordered back to Bangkok to face corruption charges.

Eriksson has been out of work since leaving as England coach after their exit at the quarter-final stage to Portugal in last summer's World Cup.

City fans gave a lukewarm reception to reports of Eriksson's possible arrival.

"The supporters are 70-30 against Eriksson," said Heidi Pickup, of the Manchester City Supporters' Trust.

"He has a good record at club level but you cannot ignore all his mistakes with England. You would also have to ask whether he still has what it takes at club level because it's been several years since he last worked as a club manager.

"Personally I would be disappointed. The whole situation smacks of desperation."

"It is a serious attempt to stop him buying Manchester City and it will fail."

Was that the reason behind the coup? - to stop Thaksin from buying a football club.

>>>>>>

Thaksin had been studying ManC accounts for over a month now. What if he simply didn't like what he saw - bottomless pit with no immediate financial rewards. It's not like he can turn them into trophy winning club, at best they get UEFA spot in a few years.

There are multiple threads on this topic, I posted it somewhere already, but here it goes again:

Who do they think they are, those City execs? Sevilla just won UEFA Cup and had a serious shot at La Liga title, why would Ramos leave that and go to a shithole like Man City? "Raniery opted for Juventus" - <deleted>! Juventus or bottom dwellers in the English league is not even a choice.

It's genius.

No Government in their right mind can or will deport him back to any country while an illegal military junta remains in charge, so no worries there.

why would the swede want the job when the fa is still paying him 5 million a year :o

Too Belittle for the thai millitary to buy, for a start not corruptive enough for the generals.

The thai generals should look to conatct Ken bates, he seems to have specialised in the business of rape and pillaging football clubs for his own benefit

maybe the thai millitary can teach ken bates how millitary dictatorships actually operate, something that amin, pinnochet and the like know all about, not very sure how a poster can seriously include taksin with all of these neo facist regimes as stated on a previous post.

Agreed - with only a few thousand deaths under his belt, in the War On Drugs and the Southern Troubles, Thaksin isn't in quite the same league of dictators as those others.

But do you think he realises that the Greater Manchester area includes quite a few Moslem inhabitants, who may not exactly welcome him with open arms, though possibly arms of other sorts, in the light of his actions towards their Southern Thai brothers ?

To change direction slightly, does anybody know what skills or experience DL brings to Man-City, other than his money ? Most of his business experience has been in the use of political inflence, to promote his companies and assets, but this doesn't seem so relevant in the UK's Premier League.

And who would he support - in a match between Liverpool & Manchester City ??? :o
