New Two - Smokes

Recommended Posts

I have heard that it is possible to still buy new two-stroke 150's in BKK. I think the only one that is still available is the ZX150 from Kawasaki - which is fine as that's the one

I'd buy. Does anyone know a dealer that still has some of these babies in the storeroom?

Alternatively I'd go for a good (and it would have to be good!) second-hand TZM/TZR, NSR Pro-arm. Any ideas?

My four stoke 125 wave just isn't scratching where I itch having banged around bangers for 4 years on a NSR in the mid 90's.

Can't beat the smell of two-stroke in the morning!

why not buy a used one?

I've looked at quite a few but trying to find a good one has proved difficult. The Thai's 'mai pen rai' attitude to maintenance is well-known and what is offered is usually just about 'hanging' together.

As I said in the OP a good 2nd hand TZM/TZR or NSR or KIPS would fit the bill. I'd always buy new in Thailand if I could, too many have been thrashed, dropped, painted/ repaired to look like they haven't been dropped or used to drag a rot-puang around leaning at a 45 degree angle for years. I just want a good, clean, straight bike.

If you know of such a bike I would be interested.

Have a look here: www.mocyc.com

Then get a Thai friend to help you with the language/buying.

You can do what I did: when u buy a 2nd hand bike, keep some of your budget back for repairs. There will inevitably be some things that need fixing. PS: I have an Honda NSR150 and a Yamaha VRR150 (both 2 strokers; VRR has the same mechanics as the TZR/TZM). Each one cost me less than 10K (including fixing them up). Figure on 15-20K for a NSR150 proarm; maybe 25K for an exceptional specimen.

I really wanted a Kawasaki KRR; there are loads of them on the roads in Bangkok. Recon you could easily pick one up for 10-15K in good condition.

Parts for all these three bikes (NSR150/KRR150/VRR150) are very cheap, so you can keep these going for years. Buy one and keep it forever :o

Maybe when I return I will add a KRR to my collection :D I seem to have become a bike nut!

Hum, just looked on mocyc.com; nothing there. Maybe you have to wait till December or April when Thais sell stuff to get money for New Year. Or if you see a good bike, offer to buy the bike because most people are moving over to the waves or autos and dont want the old less fuel efficient bikes.
