Companies seeking alternatives to conventional advertising are spending money on event marketing. But ironically, event models – known locally as “pretties” – are finding it difficult to get well-paid modelling jobs.

The daily wage of event models varies between Bt800 and Bt6,000, depending on the type of event and the personal attributes of the models themselves.

For major events, such as the Bangkok International Motor Show, models were paid on average Bt4,000 a day.

Young women aged between 15 and 25, light-skinned and taller than 160 centimetres are favoured, but competition for top assignments is intense.

Logic defies logic

An expat friend living in Hua Hin was watching a couple of cops pulling over almost every vehicle for a licence check. At the same time there was a kid around 10 years old tooling past on a motorbike.

When asked why the kid wasn’t pulled over for a licence check, the cop replied that it would be pointless as the kid was too young to have one.

Same sort of logic as the explanation as to why one was driving while drunk. I was too drunk to walk.
