BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Prime Minister announced the government has set a target to procure 65 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for next year, including newer versions of the jabs, while more than 70% of the population in 11 provinces have so far received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government has already signed contracts with vaccine suppliers to procure 65 million doses for 2022. He said the government is closely monitoring the development of newer vaccine versions, including those for nasal application, to appropriately plan the country’s inoculation strategy next year.

According to the Prime Minister, Thailand has spent the second biggest amount of government budget to take care of the general public, just after Chile. Up to 25% of the national GDP is used to help and compensate the general public affected by the pandemic.

On the air border reopening to visitors, the Prime Minister said overall outcomes have so far been satisfactory, while related agencies are now asked to streamline travelers’ documentation verification process at the airport by implementing electronic systems, in order to cut down the wait time.

The Prime Minister said the reopening of additional areas for tourism will depend on the suggestion of public health agencies while urging businesses to adhere to opening hour restrictions and other public health measures.

He said it is necessary for the reopening of nightclubs and bars to be postponed, as the available measures are still inefficient to control these activities, and asked related agencies to ensure strict compliance to disease control measures at Loy Krathong events this Friday.

Considering that there about 75 million people in Thailand (70 million Thai residents, 5 million temporary residents and expats) and the growing consensus advising boosters every 6 months, then would not 150 million vaccines be needed?

If most of the thai population will be jabbed by the end of 2021 why do they need another 65 million doses?

You need to jap people with a quality vaccine.  Let us never forget how many got Sinovac.  They will most certainly have to be re-immunized.

"Up to 25%" can mean anything from 0.00000000001% to 24.999999999%.

Oh come on…it is well known and publicized that current vaccine effectiveness diminishes over time and numerous countries around the world are already giving boosters.

Good point, and he doesn't say where the vaccines are coming from ,perhaps China?

All vaccines also have a use by date, so what comes first the chicken or the egg?

Vaccines being used after they have expired is not really part of this. The efficacy expiring, more so.

That's what's needed but it ain't what's going to happen.

Oh God now you  have spoilt everything by beng sensible

Not enough even for half the population.

They never learn from their past mistakes.

because from the start it was always to be
Jabs for life.

Thailand needs double or triple that. A jab every 6 months for all

The 65 Million doses of Booster Vax will probably not be AZ now.

AZ have decided that they will sell for profit on the Vaccines now instead of at cost which should please some Thai investors.

On another note, Pfizer will not allow Thailand to manufacture their new Covid pills, with the manufacture rights going to some poorer Countries.

I guess all the years of producing shoddy copy pills, and distributing them all over the Globe may have had some bearing on this decision.

Actually 300 million.

Edit:

Wait until proof of vac is required for visa extensions ????

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that 80 mil have already been vaxed.

There seems to be less hesitancy in the population now...from what I've seen the herd is definitely lining up for the jab.

25% of Thailands GDP is 136.5 Billion US Dollars equal to almost 5 Trillion Baht (5,000,000,000,000). I wonder how big a part of this amount has been directed directly into the pockets of Thailands already filthy rich elite, while a large part of the population is starving?

Procure 65 Million doses eh??

Thats another way of saying to Mump or scrounge from others.. ….  mainly nations that make the vaccine.. where dirty filthy Farrang come from.

Then sell it for a nice little earner to their own folk.

All these numbers are proof of only one thing: it is time to overhaul the way mathematics and statistics are taught in this country’s schools.

This is the number for booster shots for a nut in charge, the military, the ministry of administrative affairs, people with lots of watches, associated mia nois and other assortment of giks.

Yep! For the rest they count on donations.
