The Lao People's Democratic Republic has proposed that the two nations construct a joint border liaison team to improve information sharing and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Tea Banh, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, and Chansamone Chanyalath, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, presented the recommendation during a meeting. The meeting took place at the Friendship Building of the Office of the Council of Ministers on November 30th in the morning.

The Royal Government has yet to establish border liaison teams with Vietnam and Laos, according to DPM Banh. The Lao Defence Minister sought the development of a joint liaison team with Cambodia due to the unavailability of such a team. He noted that the formation of such a team is critical for the mutual sharing of information.

DPM Banh added that historical experience with Thailand's joint border liaison has demonstrated that the liaison is beneficial to both nations. The liaisons between Thailand and Cambodia were able to meet promptly when an issue arose and fix it thanks to the formation of the liaisons.

Apart from the idea to establish a border liaison team, the two defence ministers also addressed the improvement of military connections and existing structures, according to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Both parties, according to DPM Banh, want to improve cooperation amongst local officials. Once the epidemic is gone, local leaders from both sides are encouraged to meet at least twice a year.
