Rights groups say Thai government must do more to combat human trafficking

Human rights defenders told Thai Enquirer that more is needed to combat human trafficking in Thailand despite the government’s promise to step up the effort to boost Thailand’s reputation in the eyes of the world.

 

Human trafficking earns global profits of around $150 billion a year. It’s prevalent in Southeast Asia as the region’s porous borders enable smugglers and traffickers to exploit vulnerable people.

 

Thailand has long suffered a problem with human trafficking. It has developed an unenviable reputation as a source, destination, and transit location for modern-day slavery. But Thai authorities are working to clean up their troubling record before the US Trafficking in Persons Report next year.

It suits the cheap slave labour companies and businesses.

And also those that turn a blind eye to the issue in pursuit of some dash money.

Perhaps they could get Amnesty International to assist?
