Absolutly useless.

If the government really interested in make some changes,

then they should follow the German or Swiss model.

What do you think, why they have only few traffic fatalities?

Because in Germany and Switzerland they have a strict traffic

law enforcement.

Very easy to get the driving license suspended.

In Thailand... just 200 or 500 Baht tea money.

It's also strict in the UK.

And if you want to see what seriously harsh penalties are for drink driving, Norway is the place.

30 pts: driving on an expired, suspended or confiscated licence.

What logic. If you don't have a driving license or have been withdrawn, you can continue to collect points as if you still had a driving license. 555

Apparently you can also overdraw your account like at a bank.

What a joke! This is just another way for MIB to top up their income! There's absolutely no real deterrent.

It would perhaps prove more effective if the owners of companies and taxis were liable for heavy fines if their drivers committed any road traffic acts.

Immediate 12 months ban for 1st offence of no driving licence or insurance.

5 year ban for 2nd offence, if caught driving whilst banned a cheeky little 6 months in monkey House and 10,000 fine.

Let's face it.  If by some miracle the RTP were able to instantly start policing the roads as they currently do in  the West, Thailand's logistics economy would grind to a halt before breakfast on day one.

But they want to be "seen to be trying" to make things better, not actually make things better - anybody whose been here for more than 30 minutes knows that everything is a charade and for the sake of the show.

And sometimes it's difficult to tell if the show is meant to be a comedy or a tragedy.

Another system in place?  they aren't around now to enforce the first system plus I seriously doubt they can figure out who is who they aren't carrying any type of device to see how many points a driver might have what are they going to do write down their names and go back to the office and look in the written log book. How out touch are these people DLT the reason they should just scrape all these freeloaders!???? what a bunch of Ting Dong!

In a normal country that would be an automatic ban and loss of licence, but T.I.T. !

So you could rig the meter and be p'd as a fart and only lose half your points. Wow, driving a public vehicle (taxi or private hire) under the influence was grounds for immediate withdrawal of licence where I was driving in the UK. Depending upon how far over the limit you were would determine whether your licence disappeared for 1 year, 5 years or ever.

I hope that some of the western media outlets get wind of these absurd penalties for taxi drivers in Thailand. Only in Thailand (cuckoo land) could the "powers that be" sanction convicted taxi drivers with up to (3) DUI convictions, to ferry tourists around... Mai Pen Rai...
