Non Immigrant O Through Kids Educational Visa

Featured Replies

My family and I are here on a 30 day visa on arrival. Can my wife and I qualify for a non-immigrtant O visa through my our 2 kids who will be attending school here?

Do we need to leave Thailand to apply for these visas and if so, is there a reccommended place to apply?

Thanks for all your help!

Greg

You must leave Thailand to apply for a Non Immigrant O type visa. Is your wife Thai ? If not they won't give you one.

Once your children are enrolled in school one parent per child, ie you for one child and your wife for the other child, can get an extension of stay at the local immigration office as a dependent of the child. This extension is for one year or until the end of the enrolment period, whichever is shorter. Subsequent applications for extension can be made as long as the children remain in school.

For your first extension, however, you must first apply at the immigration office for a change of visa status to non-immigrant status. You can do this during the same visit when applying for the extension, once you have the necessary paperwork from the school. Most immigration offices are since last October accepting application for change of visa status to non-immigrant also for people who entered visa-exempt.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Be aware that Immigration may be very reluctant to approve an application for extension of stay on this basis for more than one parent.

Ok; this goes for Phuket;

If u have kids at either of the 2 international schools here (BIS and QSI)

the school will issue you all the papers you need to apply for a one year extension. Check with the school your kids will be going to in advance to make sure ALWAYS

Immigration will change your visa for you here.

They will also give BOTH of you visas also ur kids ( if over 12) Once you get the first one your wife can apply as she is married to you.

U need 500, 000 in the bank for 3 months

Thanks for all the useful advice. I'm in Chiang Mai, so it'll be interesting to see how we differ to Phuket. Stay posted.

Cheers,

Greg
