make an appointment at Queen Sirakit hospital in satahip if you can get there ,i have used them for many years ,get my eye tests every three months ,i have a cataract in one eye and pressure in my eyes which could lead to gloucoma ,i take drops which keep the eye pressure normal ,its a good hospital ,good doctors ,far far cheaper than Bangkok Pattaya hospital.

Good to know Queen Sirakit can do the pressure test and far cheaper than Bangkok Hospital .   I have peripheral glaucoma in one eye and also use drops to keep the pressure normal BUT try getting the "field test "  and not many places can do this .  Crazy really as both the pressure test and field test were given free included in my eye test in the UK at Specsavers when I went to get new driving glasses AND  no charge when made with an order for prescription glasses .   So, it does make you wonder if Thailand is really up to speed on eye tests and facilities for same  !!!

There used to be the Pattaya eye center behind Big C (old carrefour) Pattaya Kleang on soi Yumae. Dont know if it is still there its been a few years. May be someone else knows better.

I originally went to him 5 years ago as my optician sugested i have a check up ,he told me i needed an immediate cataract operation never mentioned my eye pressure ,anyway i went to Queen Sirakit to check ,was told i had a minor cataract no need to do anything ,but needed drops for eye pressure , as far as i know the guy behind big c is closed down ,bloody good job to ,  might need a cataract operation soon ,but not a real problem.

Did you explain you were having issues each time?  Or was it more time to check?  Cataract is normally not an issue in itself and only requires removal if it causing problems.  So if you said something like having serious night driving issue to first doctor but not to second?  If not causing issues normally not a need for operation.

If a trip to Bangkok possible https://www.rutnin.com/en/about/ is well recommended and have used myself - very popular with Thai at less than major private hospital costs - very busy but well controlled queue system and English is fine.

Rutnin is a place you either like or hate. Twice with appointment waited several hours for a doc "stuck in traffic". With my blocked tearduct I'm glad I didn't follow her advice to get it operated. Like everywhere else, you need a name to go to. In my case, a specialist at BNH helped my problem.

Since we're on the subject of eyes, anyone have the experience of treatment for wet macular degeneration while they were in Thailand? Which clinics have the instruments to detect it? And then there are the injections for treatment. If you have had it done, what were the costs?

What were the symptoms you had prior to surgery?

I found myself having to change eyeglasses a little more frequently - for regular exam and getting eyeglasses, I used EUROPTIC located on 2nd Road opposite Royal Garden, but I think she has now moved into the Royal Garden.

I decided it was time for a complete eye exam which I had at BHP.  The lady doctor said I had cataracts in both eyes. She said I could continue getting new eyeglasses but could instead have surgery to remove them but could wait if I wished. I was reluctant to have surgery and purchased new eyeglasses.  But as the cataracts grew, my vision continued to change even more frequently, so I decided it was time for surgery.

Dr. Srisuraj  at BHP performed the surgery on one eye and checked the results the following day, then he did the other eye.  I chose monofocal lenses (far vision) primarily due to cost as the multifocal lenses (far and near vision) were much more expensive. Another factor in my choice was my USA health insurance would cover only the cost of surgery and monofocal lenses; not multifocal.

I am glad I had the surgery did and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. This was several years ago. I do need glasses for reading, but that is not a problem as a pair of cheap drugstore eyeglasses do the job.

If you're looking for an eye test that checks for your vision parameters, glaucoma, eyeball pressure, floaters, and vascular normality then a decent optometrist can do this.

Central Mall has a couple of good licensed fully kitted-out optometrist and most will do nearly all of this for free. There's one test they usually charge for but I can't remember what that specific option is.

You didn't say if they check for cataracts.
