Symptoms associated with the respiratory system such as panting and chronic cough represent 44.38% of the long-term side effects among people infected with COVID-19, according to a study conducted by the Institute of Medical Research and Technology Assessment of Thailand’s Medical Services Department.

The Medical Services Department said that long-term COVID-19 side effects, or “long COVID”, can occur after a person has recovered from the COVID-19 infection for three months or more and the side effects may last at least a further two months in various body systems.

The findings show:

  • Nervous system (27.33%). Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, forgetfulness or muscle atrophy.
  • Skin (22.8%). The symptoms are hair loss or rashes.
  • General (23.41%). Symptoms include exhaustion, muscle or joint pains.
  • Mental (32.1%). Symptoms include sleeping disorders, anxiety or depression.
  • Heart and blood vessels (22.86%). Symptoms include chest pains or heart palpitations.
