Can Bangkok Bank's NY branch still move money as an ACH to Thailand?

Recommended Posts

Somebody on another site is insisting he moves money every week (month?) to Thailand via Bangkok Bank's NY branch as an ACH.

My understanding is that it is not possible without the transfer being done in a different format than the standard ACH, which is not available in almost all cases.

Has that situation changed?

Were some people grandfathered in and can still ACH it?

The old ACH method to transfer funds through Bangkok Bank NY is no longer available. I haven't found a financial institution that supports ACH in the IAT format.

So SWIFT is the right method to transfer to Bangkok Bank (or any other Thai bank) from the USA. I made a transfer last week from Fidelity and it was easy and fast (and free, except for the 500 baht charge from Bangkok Bank).

Hope this helps.

ACH (Automated Clearing House).

An IAT (International ACH Transaction) is an ACH (direct deposit) debit or credit entry that is part of a payment transaction originating from or transmitted to an office of a financial agency located outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
