Thailand’s medical tourism likely return to pre-Covid level by next year, analysts say

The market value of Thailand’s medical tourism is projected to return to pre-Covid levels in 2023 assuming there are no more severe travel restrictions, analysts at Krungthai Bank (KTB) said on Tuesday.

 

As international travel resumes, the country would see 310 billion baht from the medical tourism ecosystem in 2023, surpassing the pre-Covid record of 300 billion in 2019, Krungthai Compass analyst Sujitra Unno said.

 

Thailand’s vital tourism industry has suffered a dramatic decline in foreign arrivals once the Covid-19 pandemic began to spread across the globe. Nowadays, the prolonged impact is still plaguing all tourism operators.

It already has, every tourist who is visiting Thailand is a candidate for 10 days hospital stay! So Medical tourism has a new meaning in Thailand's context.

Thailand shouldn't have there hopes up on the return of medical tourist if they keep this nonsense with quarantine and day 5 testing..

We will see by doing some online research it seems prices have increased on many procedures here including the wellness programs.

If they price themselves out of the market not many will come for medical reasons.

Not with the current Test and Go Quarantine till Five-O Positive 14 Days in Hospital set up. And certainly not with the TAT lots keep on dreaming millions Chinese would come for a visit. If there is a betting shop on every prediction like this, you just need to bet against it every single time and you could become a millionaire.

Other than the US where medical procedures cost the earth, i can't see any rush of other nationalities seeking medical treatments in Thailand, that shine has gone dim long time ago, not in the latest medical advances and Technics  and not in fees...

How in the h*** can anyone say anything about what may or may not happen in 2023? It could be totally "normal" or the bubonic plague could emerge again from China and we would be right back in 1347. Just shut up!

China still has the zero tolerance for COVID 19, so do not expect many except for the business guys

and the elite Chinese doing any visiting anywhere for a while. I doubt that their policies will change in that

country until the pandemic, and endemic is really over. The analysts should not believe all or most of what

TAT predicts.

So what are figures for 2021?

They were never published. So maybe they were only in thousands, insignificant, not worth to mention. 
what are predictions for 2022?  Ok, bumrungtad might be well booked with arabs, as they alway were. But there are hundreds hospitals in bangkok, specialised ones, small, below 100 beds, which also need some traffic. 
also provincial hospitals getting traffic from neighbouring countries. With land borders shut closed nobody can come yet for many months. 
 

at the moment total monthly traffic is 100k. But only less than 10% can be for medical. A few thousands per month. 
that wont increase dramatically in 2022, because of the numerous restrictions (mainly within asia itself).
Even, if 2023 will be 10x higher, its still only 100k patients per year. 
they did not explain in this article, how figures for 2023 will be higher than in 2019. Medical conditions have to be treated promptly, can be postponed for years. So patients are constantly treated at their home countries. They cant wait unspecified time for thailand opening

Ain't that the truth. Once the borders open up tons of tourists will be in quarantine.

Good plan on the part of the government. It will surely bring in the tourist bucks.
