Last year on my study trip to Pattaya I went to have the side front upper tooth done for a root canal .

I went to the BKK Pattaya international Hospital on the highway

About 3 visits over 2 weeks

I paid 19000 baht but that didn't NOT include crown

Now a friend has told me I paid TOO much!.

He got his with a ROOT canal for 12,000 baht at a clinic in Soi 6 and that apparently INCLUDES the crown

Now I must admit as soon as I got back to Australia I went to the dentist here who did a X ray on that new root canal and said it was fantastic work

But 19k, now I'm angry

I was ripped off he paid 12k !!!!!!.

Bangkok Pattaya always charges more, they are best for difficult jobs but a root canal and crown is fairly basic so yes cheaper elsewhere

Yes well first I went to Dental Smile in South Pattaya

Who were nice, done X rays etc , but advised me it was a "difficult job" and told me BKK Pattaya hospital would be better , no idea why

But ok it seems to be done well according to the Australian dentist who did a X ray last week on it

Now I need a crown on it

It's never too much when it comes to health 🤗

I found BHP to be competitive on the root canal but expensive on the crown.. so I went elsewhere for that!

Well now ..how much do you estimate for a crown on the right side of the jaw upper tooth ?

Could I perhaps get some quotes , would that be too much to ask.... surely not !!

Seems more statistical analysis was needed prior to getting the work done.

I know a guy who does great charts.

I paid 16k for a root canal and crown so 19k not that much, especially if at BHP

When my upper left premolar broke when eating a hard hazelnut, I decided that at my age, I could go without the expense of a replacement tooth. The gap is not visible when I smile. Same with a broken tooth (nut again!) on the lower right side. I can manage just fine if my carers liquidise all my food first! [/sarcasm].

In truth, since I mostly eat salads, fruit, yogs, chicken etc, there's nothing really to cause more damage. I go careful with nuts....

That's nothing. I got a root canal including crown 26 years ago in Tijuana for 8300thb. It didn't hurt that day but the next day? Ohhh. It's still in my mouth doing fine. Don't be jealous unless you have a time machine.

You could get a better deal not in a tourist area like Pattaya and if you speak fluent Thai.

Constantly jabbing :) THink age might have something to do with it. I had great teeth until 50 and love my sugar. Maybe it did impact my teeth though but it was worth it. I do hate dental surgeries and mine have been minor but I feel helpless. It isn't the pain but the anxiety of knowing what is next is completely in the dentist's hands. Kind of like a Thai massage by a ladyboy.

Root canals are very simple procedures, I've had many of them done over the years and somebody who is well qualified can do it in 45 minutes. The most I've ever paid for one here in Thailand is 9,000 baht, and yes you were ripped off.

And the three visits were ridiculous.

550US,,,,? Bargain. Thats a 1500$ job done here in the U.S, insurance covers 65%, so you would have been out of pocket $300-500, anyway. You're good, don't stress.

Secret, I've realised that if you recommend a place they get busier and put the prices up, so I've stopped doing it. Use it as a price guide

Good dentists, meaning those who actually care about you and with whom you have chemistry, are rare. When you have one, stick with them!

I used to go to the Chula clinic on Henri Dunant. I'm told the Faculty of Dentistry right behind Siam Square is very good. Geriatric Dentistry at Chula Hosp has the very latest equipment and dentistry professors.

Never understand why anyone would go to a private hospital unless they have a trust fund.
