Thailand’s army-run Channel 5 executives on Thursday met with the Ukrainian ambassador to Thailand, three days after meeting the Russian ambassador to Thailand for cooperation in news coverage, while defending the move, amid criticism that followed the meeting with the former, saying that both meetings are intended to help the channel present balanced news coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to the Thai audience.

The channel scheduled a press conference on the cooperation in informational exchanges with Russia, China, and Iran this afternoon but cancelled in light of the meeting with the Ukrainian embassy.

Managing Director of Channel 5 General Rangsi Kitiyanasap offered the explanation after he visited the Ukrainian embassy this morning (Thursday), to discuss possible cooperation with media in Ukraine.

While I don’t believe Russian tourists in Thailand or citizens in general can be held responsible for the actions of putin, meeting an ambassador who represents his actions is a different matter.

There is no need to hear such an individual propagandise on the behalf of Russia's ever more unhinged dictator.

The reasons for russias war of aggression against Ukraine are abundantly clear and inexcusable no matter what putin’s lapdog may claim.

Sure you can. At a Russian Embassy elsewhere --

Want to talk? FBI trolls Russian Embassy for disgruntled would-be spies
  (23 MAR 2022)

The FBI is trying a novel strategy to recruit Russian-speaking individuals upset about the country’s invasion of Ukraine: aiming social media ads at cellphones located inside or just outside the Russian Embassy in Washington.

The ads, which appear on Facebook, Twitter and Google, (in Russian language) are carefully geographically targeted

The ads are designed to capitalize on any dissatisfaction or anger within Russian diplomatic or spy services — or among Russian emigres to the United States — over the invasion of Ukraine, an event that counterintelligence experts call a huge opportunity for the U.S. intelligence community to recruit new sources.

Anything that comes out of the army wether it's on a TV channel or elsewhere, is not worth listening too.

It never ceases to amaze me how tone-deaf most "authorities" are here.

Anyone with an ounce of awareness would have known that appearing to peddle russian "information" would be perceived as foolish and dangerous.

Having to walk it back, and lamely claim the need for fairness ad balance just illustrates how fool-hardy the initial meeting was.

Maybe I expect too much from those running Thai Army TV?

Oh, and tell me again why the Army has a TV station? (rhetorical)

In the past week on the Thai news I've seen:

1) Son beats 70-something yr old mom after coming home late and being refused more booze money.

2) Yaba-infused truck driver refuses to stop for cops, smashing through their barricade.

3) Thai league footballer sucker punches and knocks out cold member of the opposing team he disagreed with.

Yeah, I can see how such folks would look favorably upon Russia's actions.

It's probably the last 2 and a desire to look strong and important. A wish to resurrect the Soviet Union at least in terms of land. Possibly a feeling by Putin that he's losing popularity. He's already resorting to manipulating elections and jailing anyone who opposes him.

Hopefully someone close will stop him.  I have heard rumours that there are some particularly in the security and intelligence services who are becoming frustrated with him. A lot of them had good lives in Russia and were able to holiday and educate their children in western countries. Their patience may not last long.

Channel 5, a voice for the government if there ever was one, just wants to be fair. I understand. So, in order to be "fair" in other categories of Thai-Western relations, perhaps the US and its allies should raise tariffs on all Thai products to match those of Thai tariffs on US/European products. Got to be fair, you know.

I.M.O. Putin is trying to emulate Marshal Zhukov who 'Liberated' Berlin from the Nazis, and is why he is calling Ukrainians Nazis. Criminally Insane.

Army-run TV5 falsely reported the meeting between #Ukraine Embassy CDA Lysak & TV5 President Lt Gen Rangsee took place at the station despite its own news clip showing background of a top of 1 of All Season Place buildlings on Wireless Rd where Emb located. Shame. #Thailand #TV5

Imperial conquest.

Control what remains of Ukraine after it has expanded russian land borders and keep it within her sphere of interest.

A flexing of Russia’s military might in order to intimidate other neighbouring countries who may seek to move out of her sphere of interest. A goal that my well have failed given russia’s progress so far, which while it has certainly yielded territory, has by no means been as expected.

Stop and if possible reverse nato expansion. That may be a point that has some validity but invading Ukraine to enforce russias will does not.

Lieutenant-General Rangsi Kitiyanasap, the Managing Director of Channel 5, said the reason why the army-controlled TV channel will air news from Russian, Chinese, and Iranian governments is because they are free. (1/2)

He also said he does not believe that these governments would provide propaganda because it will damage their credibility. (2/2)

Credibility is in the eye of the viewer and propaganda takes on many guises.  Airing one side of a situation without airing another view is disingenuous.

... unbelieveable, one of the dimmer bulbs on the chandelier, would be my considered opinion.

That's already best case, otherwise just a(nother) lying sack of siht.

It's freedom of speech to let both sides explain their view, so from that point of view a fair move.

He says he wants the Thai people to have information from both sides and they can decide for themselves.

Sorry general but you should know that Thai mind doesn't work like that, and Thais are not taught at home, by interaction in society or at any level of school, including most universities, to analyse what they hear and then make a decision (of any sort).

You certainly won’t get any ‘balanced news’ from the Russian ambassador, just lies and propaganda.

Putins (Selfish) Invasion Reasons:

Doesn’t Want Free NATO / EU Ukraine on Russia Border.

(Compares Badly with Unfree Russia)/ “Encircles” Russia).

Wants Ukraine Pro- Russia or Neutral. (Buffer State).
Makes Putin Appear as Strong Leader to Russians.( Power).
