P-Traps in LOS

Building a new kitchen and want to improve on the sink drain.

 

There is currently a 2" elbow protruding an inch or so from the wall. (I.D. of fitting is 2-3/8")

 

My cabinet backs are 3/4".

 

They originally used a flex hose from the sink drain to this fitting, just shoving it in and hoping it did not leak water or bad odors/gases. I bought a new, quite pricey composite sink, and from the bowl through the (real) P-Trap it is western quality (white plastic). But....the final fitting does not have a slip nut/gasket, just a 1-5/8" O.D. white, thin-walled plastic. Nor does it have a flair at the stub-out end to support a slip nut.

 

So they expect me to just poke it in and forget about it.

 

I have looked everywhere for a reducer and a way to insert the final trap piece into it with a good seal; either by compression or threading. No luck.

 

I don't want to silicone the gap, but that appears to be my only option.

 

Anyone had experience with this?

Really need a picture I think. But, if you can stick one tube inside the other, then good 100% silicon should be fine. It's not going to move.

So if all else is rulled out, silicon should be fine. ????

Silicone will work, until you need to take apart. Then it's a PITA.

 

Same with the drain basket; silicone is a bad idea. That's why they make plumber's putty, which I can't find here either.

If that’s the rather goey semi liquid used instead of PTFE it’s reasonably available in the big stores, not much choice but it’s there.

Looks and feels like PlayDoh. Mold it into a rope and use it to create a non-adhesive seal between the  strainer and the sink.

 

I think Thais use caulk, a poor alternative.

Could try this stuff on Lazada Plumbing Moldable Epoxy Putty Pipe Sealant

 

Comes from abroad though so could take a little while for delivery.

Yep, got all that. Came with the sink.

 

I'm looking for the threaded 1-1/2" piece that is the final section of the rough-in stub-out, which protrudes into the cabinet. That is what the final piece of drain pipe attaches to, using a slip nut.

 

Apparently that does not exist here. They just shove a smaller pipe into the stub out and enjoy the sewer gas and leakage when the line backs up.

 

I found a silicone fitting that seals the end of the pipe, on Lazada. It will have to do.

Have bought (the wife has) that stuff from a local hardware store. Cannot give you the Thai name but English on the packet is non-toxic clay "YakyYak"
