The Royal Thai Police warned the public about posting and sharing unacceptable jokes and pranks that could be fake news on April Fool’s Day, April 1st.

Deputy Spokesman Siriwat Deepor said that some jokes or pranks may affect or cause public panic in the society, especially when they were being posted and shared widely on social media.

I wonder whether they'll issue a timely warning that hurling buckets of water at passing motorcyclists is not a very good prank either.   Or will that warning come too late as well?

Most probably for any joke or prank which takes the <deleted> out of the bold gendarmes!

It is worth noting that the Pattaya News article was published at 17:45 today - nearly 6 hours after what I have always believed to be the noon deadline for April Fool jokes. Bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, I think! Or maybe the noon deadline for April Fool jokes doesn't apply in LOS??

No,No Thailand not same..

From the linked article: "5 years or a maximum fine of 100,000 baht" - so they do mean business.

I thought I read a prank report on these very pages earlier today ...

Wow...I guess hunger for more control over people lives is getting bigger! What next? What can you laugh on? Or rather when?

Is THIS the annual "AseanNow" April Fool's Day joke article?

Yep, like they missed it all. That´s the whole point with April Fools Day.

Can this joyless <deleted> give a single example of public panic caused by an April Fool joke?....morons.

It's never too late to prosecute opposition candidates.  Not unusual to see them go after them for stuff they did 15 years ago.

Glad they have absolutely nothing else to do.

????

It's ok as long as the joke is not on them!

And this was posted just as April's Fool day ended!

Is this the police arriving at the show with a few buttons undone again?

I imagine the best prank on the police would be this .....

Fake Donut

They are the joke; a cruel one but the Kwaistone Cops maraud the land dragging it into the gutter.

The irony is that for the RTP itself it seems to be April Fool's Day all year long judging from the (bad) jokes and (disgusting) pranks we see from them all too frequently. Like this one, for example:

So does that mean No putting plastic bags on heads of people? no kidnapping? No extorting 200 baht from scooter riders etc etc?

Certainly not

TOT enjoys it year round

I fully agree with the original report!  I read early on April 1st how the government cared for the people of Thailand and the health and prosperity of the nation was their #1 priority.  Clearly, this was an April 1st joke in very poor taste...

Thailand forbidding Bitcoin was not an April fools joke?

US forbidding Bitcoin obviously was :cheesy:

I think you'd better brush up on your definition of the word prank.

No, that's all okay.... because those "pranks" are not confined to one particular date in the year, April 1, but are pulled off EVERY DAY.

I think the deadline is midnight 31 March next year.

To be fair I think it might be more of an issue in countries where official statements tend to be more ridiculous than April Fool jokes. Thailand might have a problem there.

They are going to be busy then. And that's just on here.

I find it hilarious how concerned the police are with technology and social media to issue such broad and sweeping statements.
