Bang Kaew police were called to Big C in Bang Plee, Samut Prakan, after a horrific stabbing.

A man came into the store armed with a knife and jumped into a sales booth where his ex girlfriend was working.

He then chase her around the store until knocking her down between tills number 6 and 7 and stabbing her eight times in the chest, torso and limbs.

Sanook reported that no one intervened until a witness drummed up support with male staff and charged the assailant making a citizen's arrest.

But by then it was too late and Maree, 34, a Cambodian national was dead.

Chanawan, 31, has been charged with her murder.

He said they split up after being together for about a year and he had a new girlfriend.

But they never made a clean break calling each other frequently.

However, when Chanawan found out his ex was dating an employee of his company he told the man to end the relationship.

He refused saying he would be picking up Maree that evening from work.

At this he snapped, bought alcohol to drink and a knife and headed to the store. His attempt at reconciliation failed.

Murder followed.

But this was not the first time he had used violence out of jealousy.

Police revealed that he had left jail in 2019 after being convicted of attempted murder of his ex girlfriend.

People tend to freeze up in these situations, I find this article's insinuation that people doing their weekly shopping are somehow to blame for a murder a bit disturbing to be honest.

  • Jeez. Just lock him up in an unpleasant place and throw away the key.

Nothing to find in a Big C store to kick him with?? throw at him? slam with?  I know it sounds easier than it would be, but nobody did anything to prevent this...

"His attempt at reconciliation failed"

Stabbing someone 8 times tends to do that.

RIP to the poor girl, another victim of brainless male ego

I would think it happened so fast and caused so much terror and confusion that no one had time to react.

Easy to say when you weren't there.

If I was there he would have had a grocery cart slamming into him at full speed....

For crying out loud why not at least pick up a bottle of cooking oil or some thing and throw it at him...

Why not karate kick his head? Woulda, coulda, shoulda. If the guy was determined enough I doubt anyone could have stopped him without risking getting stabbed themselves.

Let's hope the relatives sue the police and parole board

they probably didn't interfere because they were afraid of being sued to defamation for damaging his reputation by suggesting that he was murdering his ex GF.

the truth not being a defense for defamation here and all that....

Why lock him up? Execution is the appropriate sentence

What do they employ security guards at shopping malls for?

Surely, they are not just there for shoplifters?

You are talking about the police and judge I hope? The man who did should just be in front of a firing squad.

Well, with these occurrences happening more frequently in shopping malls and centers, than maybe it is time for the owners to review their safety policies?

I'm ex military and I wonder what I would do. I stood up twice to help a woman that needed protection. But in this case it can be over before people realize what's going on. Hence that's why it was a late peoples arrest.

At the opening 25 years + ago they had them at the entrance of the parking lot (with tickets and cameras even at night they patrolled. They are all gone, just to save money I guess. The shareholders don't give a ...... Even now at the CNX airport it is easier to enter than before covid.
