Thailand’s consumer confidence declined for a third consecutive month in March to a six-month low, dragged down by concerns over Covid-19 infections and rising living costs, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) said on Friday.

The UTCC reported that the consumer confidence index fell to 42 points, down from 43.3 in February. The index started to fall in January when the Omicron variant emerged across the region.

“Consumers were worried about the domestic Covid-19 situation, as well as a spike in  living costs,” Thanavath Phonvichai, UTCC president, told a briefing.

The index has been falling for the past two years.  There has only been a mild jump up before it went back down a few times.  Waiting on certain forum members to disagree and tell me the economy and Consumer confidence is doing a smashing job.

Probably coincides with constant fall in the happiness index since the Generals stole took office

Well to be fair, he has been there for more than 2 years.....it is 8 years now. Was his initial promise perhaps to return democracy in 2 years?

Covid will be blamed by the goons. But, the reality is they destroyed their own economy with highly selective shutdowns, an unwillingness to behave like adults, and reopen the nation to tourism, and very, very bad management. They all need to be ousted. They have outlasted their welcome by at least 6 years now.

There has never been and never will be “ democracy” here. Conditions Don’t Exist. Culture. Civilian Politicians were an absolute disgrace, buying the votes of the low IQ 85 Leaderless Betrayed Rural Poor Majority, whilst maintaining the hopeless enslaving monarchy worshipping “Education” system, all for self - interest / self- enrichment of the immoral “elite”.

Military for all their faults realize this and required to govern here for basic stability & chaos avoidance.

No Change Possible Ever.

No; his original promise was that he would ''Return Happiness to the People''; but that promise has gone the same way as all his other false promises !

My consumer confidence shrunk more again today when I went to do some food shopping, half of the aisles were empty and the freezer section was down to the bare bones minimum.....

My wife's mother always felt not taking the money would be particularly dim.... , they aren't able to see who you ultimately do vote for so why not?

That’s my further point. Short term “rice bowl” thinking another huge cultural problem . no thought to change/ improve system for future generations. just fatalistic same old generational “ rinse & repeat”.
