Commuters queue for the free ride at the MRT-3 North Avenue Station in Quezon City on Monday morning, March 28, 2022. The MRT-3 offers free rides to commuters for a month, from March 28 to April 30, following the completion of the rehabilitation project of the train system and as part of the government's effort to help ease the commuters' financial burden.

MANILA, Philippines — The number of overhauled MRT-3 wagons or train cars now stands at 50 with two already deployed and more to come, the Department of Transportation disclosed Friday.

In a statement sent to reporters, the DOTr said that Sumitomo, the line maintenance provider of the Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 in charge of the line's recently-concluded rehabilitation had 22 of the 72 wagons of MRT-3 still scheduled to be overhauled.

The DOTr added that it also deployed two more wagons, one in end-March and another on April 6, after undergoing a series of speed testing and quality checks.
